Another thrilling garden!

I know that a blog without pictures is not ideal, so I will have to ask you to go to www.cotonmanor.co.uk where you will see far more stunning photos than I could take. Coton Manor is in Northamptonshire, and is beautifully laid out with a lake – with flamingoes – huge herbaceous beds, a wild garden and a bluebell wood. They have a Garden School where lectures are held throughout the summer, and are able to book well-known garden designers and writers to give talks like Helen Yemm, James Alexander-Sinclair, and Fergus Garrett. Two years ago I went to lecture by Anna Pavord . . . lunch was included in the £60 price, (lovely cafe with an outside seating area), and a vast nursery too with competitively priced plants.

Today I received their brochure, and have been jumping up and down with excitement as John Massey is on the programme in May: his subject “The Year-Round Garden”. He is the chap who runs Ashwood Nurseries, (West Midlands) which I recently raved about! So if you are not too far away from Coton Manor, I thoroughly recommend a visit. The journey for me takes an hour-and-a-half, but very well worth it. Enjoy!

Thank you for your comments Terra and Sixpence. Perhaps not too far for you to visit Lincslass? If you CAN get there, Sticki, I promise you won't regret it . . . I've now been three times, and always had a delicious lunch, and then filled the car boot with plants (there's a surprise . . .) :)

Thanks Sheila, I will go and look. I need to see something summery! How was the Anna Pavord lecture? She gave one at Cambo House as part of their tulip festival. I did think about going ....why on earth didn't I go?....I suppose it's because I would have to go on my own, but I bet I would have loved it!

Thanks Hywel. When I was last there, the bluebells were fading, but we could still picture how they would have been in their full glory. Karen - I may be going on my own this time, but it won't matter as we'll all be keen gardeners, and I'm not shy! Anna Pavord is one of my favourite writers, and she was an excellent speaker, though naturally I've no idea what I've done with all the notes I made . . .
