For Gattina - FLAT English garden in sunny February!

I was given a lovely new tiny camera for Christmas, (Panasonic Lumix), so I no longer have to plug-in-and-recharge every five minutes! Sunny day yesterday, so took the camera for a walk found the garden . . . we’d had 4" – 6" of snow a few days ago, and because it is SO cold, it is still lying.

Like the shadows . .

Spot the bonsai on the sledge!

Hydrangea petiolaris – pretty at any time of year.

Patterns on the drive – and you can see the masses of seed pods still on the Cercis siliquastrum (Judas tree).

Bit of a change from last summer’s idleness!

Then I came indoors and made Curried Sweet Potato soup: the easiest soup ever. Cut a couple of large sweet potatoes into small cubes; cover with boiling water and add sea salt and pepper. Simmer for 15 minutes or until the sweet potato is soft, then add curry powder to taste (couple of teaspoons?) and whiz in a processor, probably in two separate batches. Yummy in this cold weather!!

Your drive looks very pretty Sheila, with the snow picking out the brick patterns...
Garden looks chilly, but beautiful ...
Very cold today ... keep safe and warm :o) x

Thank you, Sheila! Was that really all for me? You don't know how lucky you are! I can't describe how depressing the build-up of snow is here. I do like your shady arbour, and the wood nymph sitting there, reading! I am off downstairs now to make a huge pot of potato, leek and turkey soup/stew, and it will stay on the stove-top for the next couple of days, driving us all deleriously mad with it's wafting scents of celery, carrot, meat and herbs (if I can dig any out of the snowdrifts).

Yes, Gattina, I DO know how lucky I am! I was inspired to write this to cheer you up after reading in this morning's paper that "this is the worst February freeze that Europe has faced in decades . . . some of the most ferocious weather has struck Italy . . . etc."

Thank you for your nice comments, and we're still enjoying our soup too. :))

Thanks Sticki and Terra!

Lovely blog and pictures Sheilabub. Now.. I like the sound of Curried Sweet Potato soup, I have all the ingredients, I am quite tempted! I have the same camera like yours, I would be lost without it. :)))

Thank you Willi and Michaella . . . do give the soup a go, it's very warming! Yes, it's a great little camera, isn't it M, and nice to have GoY friends to show pics to. :))

I forgot to say, Sheila, that I treated myself to the same camera a moth or two back, but it is sitting back in the UK, just waiting for me to come and fetch it home. Can't wait! I noticed that a few GoYers had the P. Lumix, and were producing some amazing pictures, so Hurrah for Amazon.uk!

We have started a 'Lumix' appreciation club then! lol. Lovely photos Sheila, but we still have no snow at all here, in fact not even a frost this morning. I've done a blog to cheer you all up...you could have almost believed it was spring this morning...but not quite...the lake was almost frozen right across!

This is the Camera I use Sheila, it is fantastic. It doesn't do everything, but what it does, it does very well. I can't wait to see what Gattina does with it...No pressure G.
