Just a bit of fun, for Olympics fans (and those who like crosswords!)

I have 100 clues in front of me, but (obviously) I’ve solved the easy ones. Our local Rotary Club often produces these puzzles on various themes, and charges £1 for a copy which goes to their funds.

It always keeps us quiet for a week or two, but the downside is that we don’t get the answers for about a month! So . . . if you are very patient, and would like a bit of fun to while away an hour or two, get those thinking caps on. The overall title is “How Well Do You Know Your Olympics”, but the answers are not necessarily the name of a sport – just a word, or words, that are connected. I have solved 67 so far, and to give you an example, one of these was “Tuck” (clue: Friar’s compact position when falling (4) ); another clue, Leap over chap from Warsaw (4,5): “Pole vault”. Some are anagrams.
1. You’re back again? That’s what you said yesterday (5,3,5)
2. Horror film house (6)
3.Two days to find the next in the sequence 2,3,5,7,? (9)
4. We’ve all got it in us for sliding down the run (8)
5. What Rod does to be near you (7)
6.He’s little, and even when he wins, he’s last over the line (3)
7. Arguing (6)
8. Where to use your ribbons and balls (5)
9. Bares all in a fight when confused (5)
10. Footballers do it for artistic impression (and penalties) (6)
11. Palindromic aquatic conveyance (5)
12. Hear a sort of page cheer the round for losers (9)

That’s probably enough for now, but there are more if you want them(!) bearing in mind that I do not have the answers YET. It’s No.11 which is driving me mad – so I do hope someone can solve it! Good luck and have fun.

6 Aug, 2012

Wow . . Pimm's Gattina and Pam . . . you are stars! Brilliant (so far, lol). I might put up another 12 tomorrow since you're so good at these!

6 Aug, 2012

No, I have to admit, I thought, looking at the letters, it must be re- something, and went and asked Peter, he thought there was definitely something like "repassage" so I Wikipedia'd it. Blimey, I'm not THAT clever! (I got one too many "r"s in there, for a start.)
I must admit, I like a challenge, and it's educational, too. Bring it on! It makes a change from weeding.

When we eventually get the results, I will put you out of your misery . . . I shall be glad when I know the answer to No.1 . . .

7 Aug, 2012

As these have evidently been mere child's play to you(!) I feel you really really want another clue or two, to climb up the medals table . . .
19. Killer-fish seen when falling (4)
20. No ace in this vessel (5)
21. Events where most of the entrants do nothing for most of the time (5)
22. A butterfly is useful as a method for this (8)

8 Aug, 2012

Thanks everyone for your help . . . I'll post our answers today (just 3 blanks now), and if you like I'll give you the correct anwers when we get them. x

9 Aug, 2012

Which are the three blanks Sheila?

9 Aug, 2012

Oooh Pam - they are 1, 22, and

"Right in the middle, and for the winner only" (4).

Hope you can help!

Also belatedly realised that we'd put "Backstroke" for "Lumbar massage (9), but that's a letter too many. Stress (and keeping me awake, lol)!

Last night got Relay for "Events where most of the entrants do nothing for most of the time" (5) - hurray.

9 Aug, 2012

The winner would get gold?. And its 4 letters.......?

The backstroke sounds so right.......

I,m a bit with Pim on 1 but thought of watch the heats. But only as a last resort like swimming for the butterfly,...... I did wonder about a sailing class but can't find much info......

Thats it I,ve got a headache now.....:0)))

9 Aug, 2012

I've probably been making some things too complicated . . . we also thought of Gold, or even Dais, but thought the letter 'r' should be in the middle! Probably Gold though . .

No.1 is a puzzle . . . I thought it might be something to do with a broken record (e.g. old vinyl) where you get the same thing repeated, (round and round) but nothing really fits. Ah well, won't worry any more, and no doubt someone else will win the £100!

Thanks very much for your input Pam :))
