Dorset delights - part two
13 comments
It is rather early in the year to be wandering around gardens, but we were pleasantly surprised to find more colour than we could have hoped for.
Beginning with Minterne Gardens, situated in the Minterne Valley with gardens laid out in the manner of Capability Brown in the 18th century. The gardens are laid out in a horseshoe below Minterne house ( house not open to the public) with a chain of small lakes, waterfalls and streams.
There is a unique collection of Himalayan Rhododendrons and Azaleas, with Spring bulbs and Maples. Enjoy the flowers as much as we did.
The un-manned Kiosk with honesty box for the £5 entrance fee.
The sheep are separated from the gardens by electrified wire fencing.
This work of art was a surprise!
I would love to know what purpose these ‘pillars’ serve. There was nobody around to ask, I’m sure a GoYer or two will know!

Stera, they certainly do seem early, perhaps they benefit from being in such a sheltered spot.
Lol Karen, I still haven't looked at the instructions for the camera ... seems 'point and shoot' works fine!

Thanks Angela - I imagine Autumn would be a good time to visit too - plenty of leaf colour.
Thanks for looking in Carole - there are so many pretty gardens in the UK aren't there?

I agree with a description I just found online "A Truly Magical Place" sorry Shirley cannot find any reference to the pillars though, it recommends an autumn visit..
That as you know is my kind of a great day out so really appreciate you sharing your lovely photo's, its always a pleasure to see the places others have visited, wouldn't it be nice to be able to tour around all of them, money and time no object...I'm dreaming again...

What a lovely walk. My faves are the first camellia and the view of the bridge, which I looked at for ages. Aren't the rhodos early?
