Sunday morning seaside stroll
12 comments
The weather was perfect for a stroll by the sea, no wind blowing, sunshine from a blue sky with a few small white clouds.
Here are some photos of the plants growing through the sand and pebbles …
A Crab shell amongst the pebbles …
Some of the plants have seeded themselves along the footpath …
The Tamarix/Tamarisk hedging protects the private gardens from the windy weather …
We saw a young couple wade out with their fishing rods … perhaps hoping to catch their lunch!
On the horizon the Rampion wind farm can be seen …
Looking West, on such a clear day, the Isle of Wight is in view …
Thanks for looking in.

Loosestrife, that's a question I cannot answer for you, but the following link may be helpful:

Julia, well done on trying to grow Tamarisk. It can form a really dense hedge along the coast.

A lovely walk for you both,on such a nice sunny morning Shirley, and I also didn't realise how many plants can survive in such a harsh salty environment..I didn't know you could see the Isle of Wight on a clear day either, so thank you for both a natural History lesson, and a Geography one too !Lol.x

I enjoyed the walk Shirley!
We love to walk along the sea front..well Rick in the wheel chair! lol
It's a different beach to here and unusual to see all the plants too.
It must be lovely to see the Isle of Wight and probably is just a ferry ride for you to visit there.
I have been there once and loved it.
Thank you for sharing.

Sandra, I am glad you paid attention! :o))x
Klahanie, I had to look up the word Lapidary! Such an interesting subject.
Rose, it's a car drive (about 30 miles) to Portsmouth, then ferry to the island.
Kidsgran, similar to us as we have the South Downs National Park to the North of us and the coast to the South.

We went to the Isle of Wight when the children were young and had friends in Portsmouth, so went on the ferry from there too! I loved it there!

Rose, I always think parts of it are stuck in a time warp ... in a good way!

Thank You! These shore plants have adapted to a very tough environment. What I am wondering is how that wind farm is adapting to the salty corrosive environment it has been planted in?
