Roses blooming in mid October
14 comments
Mild weather seems to suit the Roses at the moment … long may it last!
This Peach coloured Patio Rose has been with me for over twenty years … possibly a Woolworths buy!
Rose ‘Together Forever’ is a very pretty one … shame about the Blackspot. I really must spray it in the Spring.
Another potted Rose is ‘Sweet Memories’.
Rose ‘Champagne Moment’ is blooming for the third time this year!
Rose ‘Peace’ is enjoying the sunshine. Rain and thunder forecast for tomorrow so make the most of today!
Thanks for looking in.

Your roses are really beautiful, Shirley! I wish I could grow them on the balcony but there's not enough room & their thorns would be a "thorn in anyone's side"! π
I did have a big shrub rose for a few years growing in a corner of the balcony where it's thorns were less likely to hurt anyone. It was called 'Fred Loads' & I loved it! π
I had more success with miniature roses & had one that lived 3 or 4 years & flowered every year! π

Lovely Shirley, you have some pretty ones there, my climbers were marvellous this year, Handel and Iceberg still going strong, the shrubs not so good during summer but are now budding up, its a fact they won't be getting pruned next month, I'm not missing out on those blooms, its funny you mentioned blackspot, my Golden Showers has been hit really badly, in fact I spent time yesterday stripping leaves off it, the rest are not affected,"yet "...

Thanks Eileen ... the scent from some is quite powerful on a calm day.

David, I think you do a wonderful job with the plants on your balcony, no need to grow Roses!

Sue, you may remember that the tall wooden arch blew down in a storm recently, annoying as I had planted an 'Iceberg' rose to climb up it. The rose is thriving but I can't decide whether to have another arch or an obelisk. Mind you, an obelisk would have to be a tall, sturdy one!
I bought something for treating Blackspot, think it was Roseclear, but didn't keep on top of spraying them due to my health issues. I must make a note to start doing that. Shame your Golden Showers has been affected, good idea to remove the leaves.

Yes, you have some very pretty ones to enjoy still Shirley. I pruned Golden Showers down to the ground in early spring, thought it was a gonna, but flowering now..:)
Graham Thomas is covered in blackspot too, I don't like spraying, but I don't like blackspot either. Compassion rose has quite a few blooms out and to come..:)

A lovely selection of Roses and colours,Shirley.I used to buy lots of Roses from Woolworths,to plant in my mums garden, which were always beautiful ,and at our first House, but I got fed up of the aftercare..so I went Evergreen and Perennial ! lol It's so good they are lasting so much longer these day,so enjoy them as long as possible..:o) .

I don't like to use sprays Shirley because of the fishpond, I now use garlic douche on all my shrubs, its chucking it down today so my roses could end up being a soggy mess...

Janey, well done on having the 'Golden Showers' flowering again, I love that Rose!

Josie, rained overnight and again early morning, but not cold so I'm not complaining!

Sandra, I know what you mean about the care of Roses, but I love them too much to not have them!

Sue, we had the loudest clap of thunder yesterday morning, followed by heavy rain. More rain overnight so I'm expecting many petals to be on the ground. Tell me, do you make up the garlic spray or buy it?
