Exotic, tropical plants

found growing in an old stable courtyard in a hotel we stayed in last week.

It was sheltered and warm, the sun was shining and the plants were thriving, so I hope you will enjoy seeing them.

I wish my Alstroemerias would grow as well as these. We took a walk ‘around the block’ this morning, before the rains were due, and one front garden had three huge clumps similar to those we saw at the hotel. I’m wondering if they are A. ‘Indian Summer’ variety.

This wall on another part of the old building was covered in a climber.

As a complete contrast to that area, the landscaped grounds were very formal.

We walked through to the remains of a Roman Mosaic, absolutely fascinating to see them.

All in all, we had a restful few days away.

I'm envious of those beautiful exotic plants, Shirley. Somebody knows how to treat them well. The colocasias are astonishing!
The mosaic looks very much like the one in Chedworth villa in the Cotswolds. I remember them saying that some of the snails found there were descendants from a type originally introduced by the Romans!

Ange, it is situated here:

Litlelecote Roman Villa is an extensive and exceptional Roman villa, with associated religious complex, at Littlecote Park just over a mile west of Hungerford, Berkshire. It has been excavated and is on display to the public in the grounds of the estate.

Very interesting to visit such historic places, It's surprising what can grow in a sheltered spot.

Looks a lovely place to stay, Shirley! So pleased you both had a really good holiday!
Your pics are fab, great to share them with us! Those exotics look so lush and protected really well in the rustic courtyard aren't they! Gorgeous!
Just love those mosaics and the history behind them too. They are beautiful.
I have to say I do like the formal style gardens in the grounds, my cup of tea.
Good to hear you had plenty of rest and enjoyed what looks like a place I'd love to visit too!
