Poppies galore! Edited on Monday 28th. So sad.

Our village ‘Yarnbombers’ have been incredibly busy this year, crocheting Poppies for decorations in the village, along with a fabulous Poppy cascade now installed at our church.

Please enjoy the photos.

I believe the ‘Yarnbombers’ asked folk back in February if they would crochet some Poppies ready for mid October … by August they had more than enough!

Edited today … with an aerial view of the Poppy cascade.

Wow! Now that’s a real community effort! I love the cloth of poppies over the postbox! You’ve given me an idea to do something similar Shirley…for next year obvs.

Well that has livened up the site Shirley..what a spectacular show. Well done to who ever worked hard producing the poppies.

Spectacular, Shirley! 👍🏻Lots of hard work went into making all those Poppy decorations! 👍🏻

Wow Shirley. Clever people. I too love the pillow boxes and the church is amazing.

Karen, I have no talent for knitting, crochet or sewing so I'm afraid none were crafted by me! Good luck with your project for next year.

Thanks Julia, it's a credit to the folk who made them.

David, the Yarnbombers have created some brilliant works throughout the year for many events.

Thanks Rose, some wit has asked if they'll shrink when it rains ... :o((

They obviously love what they do … brilliant!

Thanks Ange, Lou and Bernie ... one more photo added today ... an aerial shot.

My parents, an aunt and my sister were all married here. My sister and I were Christened here and I recently entered the church to drop off winter clothing donations for Ukraine.
I'm not a regular visitor though.

What a fabulous response from everybody. I love the post box with the 3 Forces on top. It must be brightening up your neighbourhood. Have the Gate people done anything?

I admire your Yarnbombers effort.
I love to knit and crochet and would definitely join in if anything similar would be organized here.

Wonderful!!!!!!! Such community spirit and hard work. Its so heartwarming to see that people continue to make everyone remember and not forget.

Josie, the gates are decorated for Halloween. I have been trying to find out about the 2025 calendar they have, allegedly, produced but it's frustrating me right now! I shall enquire about it this week.

Klahanie, I'm sure they would have loved you to have crocheted some Poppies for them!

Kate, it's a pretty amazing sight.

Wow Shirley, haven't they worked hard, very industrious! The result is amazing especially the church and lit at night, it looks wonderful!!

The ariel view is amazing! 👏 👏 👏

Janey, I am in awe of their creativity to be honest.

David, it's pretty good for a small village.

Sorry to report this about the Poppies on the front of the bus shelter... just read this on the village FB page this morning:

'Sadly they did not fall down, we witnessed a man literally ripping them down and throwing them in the bushes at about 9pm last night. We stopped, had a word and they were carefully gathered and laid on the bench. You will probably all know the man, he is often wandering around the village. He can be very unpredictable, so it wasn’t the time to be confrontational with him about it for our own safety. I believe he was sleeping in the shelter last night?'

Yarnbombers are on their way to fix it ... :o)

28 Oct, 2024

Oh dear, that's a shame. I'm sure the yarnbombers will do a great job fixing the damage.

28 Oct, 2024

That’s really sad Shirley, after so much work was done for the pleasure of the community.

28 Oct, 2024

Bernie, no doubt they will repair it, but what a shame that they need to do so!

Sheila, I absolutely agree with you.

Just read this Shirley...what a shame this has happened...perhaps the person has some health problems..in an area not too far from us a newly sited fence was deliberately smashed down by 2 youths.

28 Oct, 2024

Julia, it appears he has alcohol issues and is sleeping rough. I really don't understand what satisfaction those two youths may have got from doing that ... :o(

28 Oct, 2024

That's a shame,Shirley! I hope they can be fixed & this time he will leave then alone.

The youths do this sort of thing because it's "cool"! That's how they find their "fun"!

28 Oct, 2024

David, it has all been fixed and looks good again. Apparently the Yarnbombers were featured on the local news today ... I missed it though!

29 Oct, 2024

I'm glad they managed to fix it!

A happy ending….thankfully Shirley… these things happen …unfortunately.. the poppies look amazing….my favourite has to be the letter box..so much work …hope you are both well..🥰♥️♥️

Hello Dotty, I hope you and all the family are keeping safe and well. Many of the pillar box toppers are around locally, such talented folk these Yarnbombers.

Michael and I have had some health issues, all ok now ... :o)) x
