A wee blether about my garden

Hi everyone ! Been meaning to do a blog for ages then start reading questions, looking at photos and reading other peoples blogs – I’m sure you know what I mean. Time runs away and the blog’s not written.
My garden started off this year all “higgilty pigglty” and, to be honest, still is – but much fuller ! Can’t stop buying plants, then wander about the garden trying to decide where to put them (Oh to be an organised gardener !). Anyway, what joy to see my seedlings grow and flower (not to mention, a surprise too ! ! ). None of the hardy perenials grown from seed flowered, though there was plenty of foliage, so can’t wait to see what happens next year with them. I’ve got Aquillegia, Lupins, Hollyhocks, Delphiniums to name but a few. Also put in Forsythia, Hibiscus, Penstimon and a Philadelphus in a pot – for some reason 300cms height translated in my brain to being 3ft (duh!) so still have to decide where a potentially 9ft shrub would be happy. I thought if I put in loads of different things in different places something is bound to take ! Lost a load of Busy Lizzies in tubs – Didn’t make enough drainage holes and they got water-logged, plus, when I turned them out, some pots had wee, baby slugs in the compost which, I suspect, might have feasted on the roots. Well folks, I really must get some photos taken soon and uploaded on the site. I’m well impressed with the ones I’ve seen. Actually, it’s a bit daunting but what the heck – will do it very soon. Bye for now.xx

I do hope you get results from your efforts next year, Silverbell. It seems you have had a lot of joy from seeing to your garden and planting all the seedlings.

Good for you on getting a blog written...I know what you mean about getting sidetracked when viewing blogs/photos....so many to read and see. I'll be watching for your photos!

Good luck with all your gardening plans/dreams.

You sound like me when buying plants. I'm definately not an organised gardener - well I'm not organised at anything really lol. It will be nice to see some pics when you get round to posting them.

Gosh ! thought I'd be the only one on the site at this time in the morning ! Pip, the picture on the pack were lilacs and pink - can't wait to see next year if they will be, Read somewhere that the colour of the leaves gives an indication of the colour of the flower - these are a bright green, but a shop bought one has dark variegated leaves. It didn't flower this year either.
Thanks for the encouragement Whistonlass. Yes, maybe the camera will come out today ! !
Hywell, I love the surprises you get when you start to clear up a bit of chaos. I found three primula under a shrub which I thought were long gone. My dad, who died 12 years ago, gave me them and they are now thriving.- I am so pleased. Also found a wee plastic soldier my granson lost about 10 years ago and a chrystal that's nothing to do with me and I've been in this house for 23 years ! ! It now sits in the hands of a wee, gold Budda.

New to this blogging lark, I'm not sure if I'm in the right place here to respond to the comments . . . and . . . what does "flag" mean next to the entry date?

I am definitely not an organised gardener, but that all adds to the fun, trying to find somewhere to fit the newly purchased plants in, I am still buying and autum is definitely upon us. Look forward to seeing the pictures Silverbell.

I find toy soldiers in my garden and my sons are in their thirties. I prefer finding plants of course.
Best wishes from a fellow Scot.

Ohh . . . all you wonderful people. If I'm totally honest I've been a bit intimidated by all the beautiful gardens I've been looking at, thought I'd be the only one finding stuff that's been lost for years. Didn't do any photos today either, but did visit B&Q - managed to buy only what I went for . . . . oh yes, and rescued a sad looking clematis for 50p ! ! !

Aha Pip - really they should have given them away. It's a "margaret Hunt", planted at my back door along with a "Montana Grandiflora" from Tesco - had to go out and look at the labels, all I could remember was one white the other pink. Hey, think I'l keep the big red and white 50p sticker on it ! ! !

That's handy, Skillen. Your garden looks amazing.
