Madeira in bloom - Orchids

Just enjoy some of these wonderful blooms at Orquidario (an Orchid garden) Madeira.
How could I possibly leave empty handed!
Photo of the label of the Cymbidium plantlet I bought, which should have pink and white flowers
And the Cymbidium with red flowers.
Cymbidium are the only Orchids for which, I can provide suitable growing conditions. I keep mine in my cool conservatory all year round, with frost protection in winter.
Having just returned from holiday, my Cymbidium have just gone ‘on holiday’ that is – they have been put outside under the car port.

I think the ones with leaves will probably take about 3 years, the pseudo bulbs only, no idea, possibly the new growth will come on the side, using the original as a storage organ. Any idea anyone?

Not at the moment, we are going to venture in to Vanda Orchids though!!

They are gorgeous, I have two wonderful healthy looking orchids in my dining room, trouble is I cannot get either of them to flower, (sigh)

What species of Orchid Llass? My Cybids only flower once in Feb-March, but they are enormous, in the cool conservatory (to 7 degrees or occasionally a little lower in winter). Most orchids need a higher constant temperature.

Waddy, Thank you for reading my blog. We though Madeira was amazing. So many wonderful gardens, visited 4 excluding some pretty parks.

I agree Siris. Was the old lady still in charge of the reception at the Orchid Gardens? She told us it was her son who drew as painted those beautiful pictures of the orchids and like you, we bought two. We hope to go back to Maderia again one day. Do you?

Waddy, we visited 2 Orchid gardens. The first, pictured, was the best in my opinion. It was owned by Austrian or German growers. I was hoping to go into the laboratory, but it was not open to the public.
The second, nearer the town, had an older lady at the desk in a rather dilapidated green house.

It was the first one we went into Siris. The lady who showed us around was Austrian. She told us her son had studied botany at university and then come back to experiment with breeding Orchids. There was part of the 'greenhouses' we were not allowed to venture into, but what we did see what magnificent. I think we must have both visited the same place. I wasn't aware of the other place.

Sounds like the same one, Waddy, there was a history of the reason and development of the garden near the refreshments area. The orchid display was wonderful. A young lady was on the entry (like a covered garage), with a few Orchids for sale.
Wouldn't bother with the other one. It sells Orchids via the internet and on site, more of a commercial outlet, not a display centre.
Did you visit the botanical garden and monte palace gardens? Fantastic,
