From Conservatory to Sitting Room.

Following on from Dd’s Conservatory Challenge, and her query about indoor (non hardy)Cyclamen.
Our conservatory is narrow, but about 24ft long, with a seating area at the far end, which is a bigger square area. There are 2 patio doors into the garden and 2 doors into the bungalow.
Looking through the entry door, from under the carport. (Excuse the newspaper on the floor, the garden is quite muddy.

This red flowering indoor Cyclamen, on display in the sitting room, came from the conservatory on the I January. It is in a jardiniere on the fire place hearth.
I find it is rather to warm to keep inside so after producing a wonderful display it has been returned to the conservatory…..
….and replaced with this pink one.
The corms are now about the size of a side plate.
The indoor Cyclamen seem to do best in a cool place, the tubular heaters keeping the North East facing conservatory about 7 C but very occasionally it can drop to just above zero.

OH has his 2 model railways (don’t call them train sets!) on trolleys against the inside wall, sandwiched between my Citrus and Strelitzia tubs.
As Seaburn girl said in her recent blog, conservatories must be shared.

I would love a conservatory, but I might be a bit difficult about sharing it. I could grow lovely cyclamen like yours Siris. A

The Cyclamens are very pretty the red corm is huge , my husband has a huge train set ( sorry model railway ) he had it set out in a room of its own on a table with tunnels and bridges , little people etc . he would be jealous of your husband as he has had to pack it all away for the time being ..

Thank you everyone. The red Cyclamen was inherited about 20 years ago, along with a quadrant plant display stand, the pink I bought. I also expanded my Cymbidium Orchid collection with some babies from Madeira.
Amy, The railways (6ft long each, can be joined together), have covers over them in the winter, as it is too cold to 'play' with them for long in winter. I would rather not share the space with the railways, and drew the line about HIM building another, to extend into the eating area. I must admit to having enjoyed making the scenery for him in the past, making plaster buildings and painting 'the little folk'.
Togetherness?

The Grandchildren have always loved playing with it maybe it will be set up again if and when we move ! it made it easy to buy gifts for him such as a new little car or animals for the fields ,I was often in trouble for buying the wrong size Lol ...

Absolutely lovely cyclamen, and lucky you having such a big conservatory!

I do like cyclamen, both the indoor and the miniature outdoor ones. Believe they don't like gas and won't thrive in a kitchen as a result.
Another lovely conservatory. (envious sigh).

Amy, I wouldn't dream of buying OH a model, unless he had specified exactly what he desired. I would take him to buy any plant present for me. I do prefer to see the specimen I am buying, although not possible mail order. Eirlys. Didn't know Cyclamen didn't like gas. Don't have gas in the kitchen, but the fire in the sitting room is a coal effect gas one, but rarely on, gets the room too hot. No greenhouse or pod, Karen, so overwintering plants have to go somewhere, the more hardy can go up the edges of the carport though.

my kitchen windowsill has 4 cyclamen on it and don't mind my gas cooker at all. some were over 20 years old.

SBG , Neither heard of that about gas either. If the appliances isn't working properly, carbon monoxide not clever for life. Good age for your Cyclamen, I expect they had massive corms.

They do look healthy Siris, to be truthful we buy lots of Cyclamen, and we always stick them in the garden, have no idea which variety they are, just buy the colours we like, they must be hardy because they never die, touch wood!!

I had a huge hardy cyclamen corm in the garden which I stuck a fork though and it rotted. The smell was unbelievable.

Siris, I meant you thanked me instead of Terra...I think?

Stera, I have just understood what you meant, senior moment! But I am pleased you like the pink Cyclamen, that's my favourite too.
