Grass Cuttings

I am going to nibble at the grass. Not personally, I am not vegetarian, but I do need more growing space.
I did look into getting a part share of an allotment, but with a minimum waiting list of 2 years, that is not an option, so I am going to remove some lawn.
I have worked hard at keeping it weed free because I think a well tended lawn sets off the borders to advantage, but admit that I find cutting the grass a chore. I must add it is only small, just large enough to lie out on, on a sunny afternoon.
I was just going to take a bit off the south facing edge, but OH suggested reprofiling it completely. I will think about that, as it is me who will be doing the work. Whatever I do, I intend to do just the south side first, the rest may be at another time.
Here is a photo of my first plan, laid out in rope.

Now I have committed my thoughts to paper, so I will have to follow through.

Lawns always need attention it seems to me! Our bottom lawn is ALL MOSS! Next door have a lawn specialist who visits and I must say their lawn is really good. OH says he will have to do something about ours but he has enough to do.

What are you planning to grow in your reclaimed lawn section?

Will look forward to seeing the finished project, more Iris? I am sure someone said to me they were definitely not going to buy any more Iris.......lol

Dd, I haven't bought any more, but my Iris seedlings from 2016 need somewhere to go.

A good excuse.......

I was amazed when OH suggested taking more off the grass than my plan, but I really couldn't face doing his idea, so I will compromised. The ground is so stoney (loose stones) and dry under the grass, having never been worked for more than 40 years.

Hard work, Terra. I have made a start, do it over the next week.

Grass is really hard work isn't it Sue? I spent most of today mowing, scarifying, feeding, watering and edging. I don't mind, but the edging is the bit I dislike..lhaving to pick it all up afterwards....which I have yet to do.

Do the work as and when you have energy and inspiration, Siris ... and to some extent, I find it best to make up the design as I go along !

I have to agree Terra....ideas are great in your head, but they always need tweaking on the ground. :)

I often mull over my ideas (usually at night) for a day or two before starting.
Thank you Terra, I will try and take your sensible advice.

Actually looking at this picture, I think I will take a root cutting of that Artichoke and put into a corner.
