Jardin Zen

Whilst on holiday recently I visited this garden in the Drome, France. A garden “Zen” of 3 hectares, created by Eric Borja, a French artist and sculptor. The philosophy is to create a garden in a Japanese style to promote calm and wellbeing.
This is at the entry and quiet is requested to aid meditation. (Tongue in cheek I think)
Racked gravel, not for walking on
And pebbles
There were not many colourful flowers in the garden but this shrub was spectacular. I asked if it was a pomegranate (Punica) but a gardener said no a flowering Grenadine, which is actually the same Genus I believe.
Instead there was much greenery, including quantities of cloud pruned trees
I will let you contemplate for a moment and then just show you a selection of photos.
I think this water lily needs a warmer climate than we get in the UK to grow. The flowers were enormous.
And of course it would not be a Japanese garden with out a swathe of Bamboo.

It's lovely. Green is very restful. I think a riot of colour would make it look busy :)

Yes, I think Grenadine syrup is made from Pomegranate. Well identified! A beautiful flower. Do you know there is a fruiting pomegranate in Chelsea Physic Garden. Being walled, it benefits from a microclimate. The eastern gardens are fond of just a few, usually red flowers. They look fantastic among all the green. Thanks for sharing.

Hywel, I couldn't agree more, but don't follow that idea in my garden which is a riot, especially coming home after our holiday.
Thank you for that info Karen, I wouldn't have thought it was warm enough in the UK.
Thanks 3pb,Callie, and Linda, it was indeed very tranquil.

Sometimes we need to be calm and sometimes we need excitement :) My garden is chaotic ! lol

Hywel, I need to calm down, so OH says, but at the moment the garden is a jungle, having just returned from a break away. Actually a savanna, the soil is so dry, but I understand a couple of torrential rainstorms which accounts for the plants exhuberance! Lost nothing, I think?

It's surprising how fast it all grows !

What a thunderstorm we had last night, I expect everything will put on another growth spurt.

I understand the South of England had some nasty storms.
I hope you are all right.

Hywel, Top of a hill, well a sort of plateau really, on plateau gravel, so no problems. Our rain drains down into Southampton, where they did get flooding. There is nothing higher around. Pity those folks on the Lizard Penninsula.

Yes, it's worrying. I hope they can get things sorted out soon.

Its a beautiful garden but I felt one has to even breathe quietly, wouldn't dare step out of line and think how you'd feel if your mobile went off, thanks for sharing though Siris, I enjoyed my peep....

I feel meditative already - love the pair of cloud pruned conifers, and also the soothing effect of the water.
It just needs a Japanese lady with a parasol!
