wildflower meadow..

hello folks..

as part of the project seen in a previous blog..I spent some time this weekend planting a wild flower meadow..I hope it takes..

here are some pictures..

I moved and covered the ground with over 3 tonne of filtered topsoil and added 12 bags of compost before I sprinkled two type of meadow seeds..2 kgs in total..

The meadow i hope will look good in front of the build and against the river which runs to the right..

I wondered if what I have done is the right way..should I have wet the ground first perhaps..?

Interesting project.
I hope the meadow grows well.
I expect the weather over coming weeks will have an effect on how things progress...

Hmm Got the seeds from Aldi! Maybe this year..I think it takes a few years for them all to come through. Good on ya tho :))))))))

I'm sure it will be wonderful , if the top soil wasn't too dry to start with the seed should germinate quickly , wild plant seeds are pretty hardy they have to be to survive in the most unlikely places ....

Be interested to see how it progresses! Keep us informed please (with pics if poss)

It's a brilliant idea Skip. You have a bare piece of land so perfect. All my ground has grass so more difficult. I believe wild flower seed likes poor ground. I also think you have to cut it down in autumn to seed down. Did you sow just flower seed or grass with flower seed? Hopefully we'll have enough rain to get it germinating.

Hi Skip, just re-visiting your blog to see how the meadow is doing. I've taken the plunge and turned a previously mown area into a wildlife meadow. I didnt fancy killing the grass so I've added plugs plants, time will tell if it works. Let me know how yours is doing :-)
