Not often we get strong winds at just the best time to take a photo on a sunny day. The last palm is full of ripe seed.

At least you get sun with strong winds.......we get rain.

I think Sandra right then was 45-50mph. Right now a day later not as windy and 17 mph gusts.
Right now Andy at 4pm,Hayward 63,Los Angeles 62,San Diego 63f.Plumeria obtusa has very tiny black dots- just very few. Nights in the 40's start that. This year, its staying outside- unless a freeze. Just bring it into the kitchen.
Those palms Ster, were planted in a subdivision called Palm Ceia. EVERY home in the mid 50's had a palm in front. Now,most have been removed, but still, here and there, there are still more per home than the rest of Hayward.
Usually the strong winds are at night. So this mid day gale, Linda, was a bit uncommon.

Stan:
We had some very strong winds today. Some areas around the city had wind gusts to 60 mph. Most areas had wind gusts from: 45 - 55 mph. It caused a big mess all over the streets and at the beaches with blowing sand and palm fronds in big piles. The winds here have finally died down.
I lived in Palma Ceia many, many years ago. I remember every yard had one palm tree in their front yard. It was sad when the trees where cut down or relocated to other areas of the state.

I love watching the trees aand the sea in the high winds....the waves have been wild for days

I love doing the same thing. We don't get too much severe or exciting weather here in San Diego...it does happen from time-to-time, though. It's suppose to warm back up to the mid 80's (29ºC) here by Thursday.

we are waiting for the temps to drop below freezing very soon...hopefully not too bad here in Pembrokeshire..

Lovely shots Stan - we are expecting a few gusts up here - we have a palm in our front garden - the frost took it a few years back and we thought all was lost and then it shot again - it is about 5 metres now and looking healthy - Jane

Sandra:
Wow! That's cold! I hope your plants fair through the cold well! I'm lucky we don't get such cold temps here; however, this morning was pretty chilly, much cooler than normal for this time of year. The morning low here was 48ºF (9ºC), the high will be 70ºF (21ºC) tomorrow much warmer.

Our wind forecast today was for gust of up to 60mph. No idea if they actually are but it sure is very windy!

sounds like perfect weather to me... all my succulents are tucked up inside for winter and I just love spending time with them in their cozy spaces when its cold outside. Too windy out there today though tucked up inside in front of the fire all day today.

As a kid- I loved windy weather. I did,the windier the better. Whats more fun then riding you're Stingray bicycles into that wind?-lol. While sitting on your leopard painted banana seat.
Now? Its all worry about shingles and like that. The thrill is gone...

I used to love windy weather, also. I still like it...it just makes a huge mess when we get strong winds and can cause damage to my plants (which I don't like).

i like the wind but now and then it drives me crazy...especially when the windows whistle...a calm 40 mph out there today. but its the wind here that keeps most of the frost away so it has it's benefits...

At least the eddies blow the leaves into neat piles on corners...

Had some windy weather here in the UK the last few days. We have been fortunate here in the south but other parts of the country have suffered.
Having lost our lovely willow on a not -that- so -windy night I am wary now as we do have some tall trees around us.

I think the winds ha e crossed the pond, Stan. We had very strong winds here last night and today. In fact, it brought down part of my fencing and I was out at 11.15 last night with a torch (flashlight) ....trying to make it safe then again this morning to make a temporary repair as the arris (horizontal) rail had snapped and so had the wooden post!!!
Oh, well,it could have been a lot worse, I suppose. At least my greenhouse and newly made wildlife house /bug hotel escaped unharmed!

Paul, shingles and fences, and the guy two blocks away tree leaves. The wind always blows off the bay or Pacific in my direction.
Jane if it ever gets sick again..use hydrogen peroxide on the the heart of the crown. Maybe on a ladder with some kind of jury rigged pouring device if its still to tall.
Sandra, whistling winds sound cool. I think its about two year since I heard that. Fencing and potted plants fell over.
Remember,John Muir once climbed a Redwood in a full blown storm just to hear "The music " of wind through a canopy.
Andy, when I posted the pics and said that this is as good as they look until next year? How true-lol. I can see the low 40's aren't making the plants happy. a 2' Mango I grew from seed was caught in a flush. The leaves will be half sized.

It's been pretty chilly here the last couple of mornings. During the daytime it's warm 76ºF. It's suppose to be very warm starting tomorrow, mid to upper 80's.

It's very windy here in San Diego, also. We had winds gusting to about 40 mp/h last night and today. The temps have dropped today, also.
The Washingtonia robusta palms are very wind-tolerant...they just loose a lot of fronds during windy weather, which can be very messy.
