One weather site says we hit 92f, 33C. A record for the day. I know it took me by surprise since they said it would only be 29C tops.
I made the rounds watering everything. Picked a few yellow Guava’s and a firm green Mango. My wife likes them crunchy like that.
What a nice day..warm breeze.
My little yard isnt seeing me plant like I used to. So,its a lot of just watching what I have get older.

Oh Stan, I don't think I could take 92F! That's what comes of being born in Wales where we all have webbed feet!! :O)
The fruit sounds tempting though. Love trying all the different kinds but it's Waitrose, I'm afraid, not our garden!

Thanks all. This record is so unusual as it coincides with record cold in Hawaii. This early morning parts of the bay area were near 80f (27c) at the same time Hawaii was getting cool 59f (15c) rains. That's something that probably hasn't happened in the last 20,000 years.

I think your west just watering and watching in that heat Stan I would hide inside if it was that hot I see Andy to has had a record heat to.

Wearing shorts Penny...plus getting a cardio test. Half Moon Bay had a low it turned out of 80f. That Penny,is just not possible. But it happened.
24 Oct, 2017
Stan,
It sounds like the lows we've been getting here. UGH!
The heat you're getting there would be very welcomed here the last 4 days. So many highs in the 100 to 108ºF (38 - 42.2ºC) range here in San Diego County and throughout Southern California. It's burning my plants! Everything was looking so good, too. :>((
25 Oct, 2017
Yes Penny, the record heat continues! YUCK!!!

I dont blame you Stan at least you are getting a health check very wise. I am glad we have nt got 80f yes nature is un predictable.

Poor you Andy you ll have to stick that ac on .

The UK should be seeing GW. Its said- the theory- is that western coasts of temperate climates will get the results sooner then inland areas. Here in the USA..Im reading people all over seeing plants they never saw before growing in their climate.
I just drove by the Guy with a few Bismarckia palms. When that palm was first introduced to California it was supposed to be too tender!
Its become just right here, at 84 (29C). I like that!
25 Oct, 2017
What is GW? strange of a change in weather patterns can bring plants out thats not flowered priir.
25 Oct, 2017
Yes Stan, what is GW? We don't know these initials or acronym.
It was blistering hot again today! When will it end! :>((

I find having 2 Gerbils a great help. They love to chew plain brown cardboard into tiny pieces. I scoop out their wood shavings litter every week with the cardboard.
Digging this in around plants conserves moisture the next summer. Well worth the effort. Fun.
I have recycled all my old compost this autumn mixing it with this Gerbil litter, Blood Fish and Bone Granules,
Horticultural Sand. Have 5 bags ready for the Tomato Plants next May. The big plastic box full with the lid on
to stew for the winter months.
I never buy new compost as it usually contains Peat which needs to be protected on this side of the Atlantic.

lol Andy it must GW for good weather or GW for Gardeners World lol.
26 Oct, 2017
Penny,
I try not to ever use initials or acronyms because so many mean too many different things. Also, I'm really horrible at guessing acronyms! LOL! :>))
26 Oct, 2017
Nor me Andy only lol like you ?. My daughter texts me with initials so then I write back asking her what they all mean.

Global Warming. When you add it to Urban Warming- huge citys and metro areas..you get 7f warmer Los Angeles then in the 1940's. And just think how they thought it was subtropical back then..they would be surprised to see California in general warmed over for longer parts of the year.
Los Angeles had a few big freezes in the first half of the 20th century- the Huntington Gardens TWICE had to be replanted as freezes wiped out the palms and succulents as late as the 1940's. I just read that the last time downtown Los Angeles had a freezing temp was in the 1960's.
When I was a kid Hayward was a 9b. Now its a 10a.
As long as we have water and rains? I love the extra warm!

I personally dont believe in global warming Stan its just the controllers making money in taxes from us Russia and the US and China can and have contolled the weather.
Nigel Lawson one of Maggie Thatchers team have investigated it to prove its a natural occurance even a top geologist in the US has gone before congress and studied the weather patterns and records and history of weather mentioned back to 5 thousand years he stated every 30 years or so right back we have had 30 years of hot and 30 years of cold weather he swore an oath he has no connections with any party government business etc he is just a geologist. Looking at the cold weather back in the 60s to now with warm weather past flew decades his notes seem right.

I cant agree Penny. Glaciers are melting that have existed for thousands of years. They were not melting 30 years a go or 60 or 90..
I've seen my own area -once a z9,now a 10a. In my lifetime.
Not sure how warm I will see in the future. Already we are warming faster then they predicted in the 1980's.
28 Oct, 2017
Yes, the scientific evidence of Global Warming is incontrovertible. Even though it's a natural phenomenon in nature, I think it's definitely being rushed forward by the influences of man.
28 Oct, 2017
Perhaps Stan and Andy this might exolain to you both. Geologist to UK government.

I'm revelling in the warm temps...but everything in the garden is very confused. We've had a strong southerly flow all summer this year. Not complaining, just a little worried to see the changes coming. Our springs have become cold while our autumns are interminable and warm. t' ain't right!
28 Oct, 2017
Bigger swings are the start of it Lori. We are going from drought to rainy too it seems.
29 Oct, 2017
Not a lot any of us can do though is there ? We know that something's changing , but can it be halted ?
I suppose that we'll have to adapt accordingly .
29 Oct, 2017
I suppose we will have to Driad like the nations had to when their citys disappeared under the sea .
