smashing.......do you always allow it to seed? Does it still flower strongly next year?

Looks interesting.

Splendid, they are making a statement. I am surprised the seeds have lasted all winter till now on the plant, mine don't.

Paul I haven't got an "always" because this is the first year it has flowered. I hadn't been right down to the bottom of the garden for a while because the grass was was so wet, so the seed heads were a surprise. Do you think that this might inhibit next years flowers? Can't see why it should?
Thank you Siris and Feverfew. Pity your seedheads don't last Siris - these have withstood really strong winds so far.
Did you notice how full the pond is? And it's still raining

That's interesting, if you have a few seeds going i wouldn't mind some just to see if i could get it going steragram. Is the plant huge ?

I don't dead head mine and they flower fine the next year. its interesting wang the birds trying to get the seeds when they swing so freely.
I love them.

Stripes PM me with your address and I'll send you some unless they all blew off in yesterday's gale! Its quite a small clump at ground level but it likes to spread itself above that. Its a bulb so growing from seed you may have to wait a few years for flowers. I have a potful of seedlings send me by a kind Goyer that last year were nowhere near big enough to flower yet and I have no idea how quickly they will grow - lots of bulbs from seed take about 7 years but some are quicker..

I suppose, thinking about it I dead head mine, sometimes using the seed. I find about 3 years from seeds to flowering.

Very impressive.
Are you the 'Angel' at the end of the fishing rod?! Yes of course you are!

Lovely plant Sue, and I hope you have luck with germinating the seed. What colour are the flowers?

I looked them up on the web & found an interesting page from the RHS:

https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?pid=99

It says they don't do well in pots - what a shame I could have grown some on the balcony! It also says they take up to 5 years to flower from seed - that's longer than my Amaryllis!

Sheila the flowers are deep pink to red. The young ones growing on still in a pot will be pink as far as I remember.

Balcony, perhaps its worth a try though? Nothing much to lose.
Wildrose - I don't think OH would go along with that idea...

Lovely picture Stera - and lots of lovely seeds -I am surprised the birds have not taken them - I tried to grow a Dierama a few years back to no avail - I think our garden did not suit it - I bought it from a garden open day - I think that one was pink - best wishes Jane

I have no idea, Sue , whether leaving seed heads on will inhibit flowers. I have never grown dierama....they don't like heavy clay. Hopefully, you'll get even more flowers this year.

I think my young ones must have come from Siris too - I really ought to keep better records of who send me what.

I first saw this plant at Gt Dixter Stera. Christo says in his book it seeds freely between the gaps on the path. The ones I sent for took ages to flower. Now they arch out elegantly every year, but variably. They were huge at Dixter so #I try to keep mine in check. I like plants with blade like leaves.
