From an old apple hedge,

My friend who lives a few doors away has a very old Apple hedge it was in the old victorian house when she moved there some 48yrs ago, its old knarled branches are propped up in places and every year we think its going to be its last. So in 2011 I took branches to Kevin at Walcut Farm in Drakes Broughton (he specialises in fruit trees) unfortunately he could only go as far to say it was a type of Malus but he would graft two for me (one for me one for my friend) on the appropriate root stock, as I want to make a small sort of hedge.
I can`t tell you how thrilled I am with the amount of blossom it has right now.
I do hope it comes true to its parent which produces marvellous cookers in late August and if left are delicious to eat late September time.
I can`t wait to taste the first one.

Fabulous Stroller its doing well, I have a vague recollection of seeing something like that when I was a kid, it was in what used to be part of the local boys grammar school and was growing at the edge of the old orchard next to the boarding school, sadly sold off to become private housing, spent many a day scrumping apples and pears when I was a kid in those grounds, lol.

Thank you Mabroon and Annella.
Lincs like you I used to scrump apples and blackcurrants as a child they were out of the Vicars garden silly really as he used to bring plenty of both over to mum who used to make his pies for him.

Stroller our own garden had lots of fruit trees and bushes of gooseberries, blackcurrants and red currants, which we all had to collect for mum to make jams but it was exciting to go scrumping, also away from mum and dads eagle eyes, it was so easy nobody ever took care of that orchard, all the kids on the estate raided it, sort of traditional, it was actually thieving but somehow never seemed like it at the time, we even had dens built in there..
Happy days when school holidays meant being outside in weeks of sunshine, think I might have dreamt the last bit, LOL.....
