Hi Karen,it is lovely to see things pushing up, my lilies are pushing through too I can't wait for them, sorry about your cornus max, lovely plant that still at least it's still ok. Good news about the tulips, yes it's been a strange weather year so far, lets hope it settles down a bit, the flame lily is tropaeolum speciosum flame creeper it's a lovely climber but really hit last year so hopefully this year it'll flower. Hope you have a great weekend too :-)

Lots of lovely things in your garden SL, I particularly love the Forest Flame, mine's not that advanced yet, yours is looking great!

Thanks Louisa, it's been a strange year weather wise here, some things are out and some are still dormant that should be out.

Lol Paul :-)
Thanks Lulu lol my kids love that plant name :-))

All looking marvelous. You've just reminded me that I need to check the tropaeolum seedling tomorrow. It grows in the front hedge and I last year I was able to get a seeding growing up a small frame in hope that as it gets larger I can transfer it. All attempts in the past have failed because I tried it when they were too small.
I like the name silybum too!

Thanks Scottish, good luck I hope you succeed this time, they are lovely climbers to have. Lol yes every time they see the seedling they giggle about it :-))

Lovely things are going on. Finally. I like all of your flowers.
Sily bum bum (lol) is very appreciated plant/herb here. Its extracts are used in prevention of liver damage in poisoning or hepatitis.

Isn't it lovely to see some colour at last, S'lad? Regarding sily bum ... I always smile when a plant has superbum tagged to it ... childish I know!!! Like Stroller, I love the glowing sedge.

Is the phil an indoor plant, Surrey or is it just on the sill to get light?
29 Apr, 2013
It's an indoor orchid Mouldy, must be warm humid with a cool spell in winter down 10 degrees I find works well for them.
29 Apr, 2013
Drat!
Being emphysemic the humidity is a no-no for me.
Shame. They're beautiful. :-(

lovely mate - great colours and foliage - all on the up :))

Sorry to hear that Mouldy, these live in my bathroom plenty of humidity in there from showers and baths.
Cheers Paul, it's looking good so far, still some frosts in the morning though.

Wouldn't work, mate...no window & an extractor fan. Sigh. :-(
2 May, 2013
That's a shame.

Gutted!

You always have interesting things in your garden, SL. I love Marsh marigolds and was wondering why the Flame Lily looked so unlilylike - not heard that name for tropaeolum before. The first year I had mine, it flowered very late, then last year nothing and at the moment no sign of it. Keeping fingers crossed. As you say, the plants are a bit all over the show this year in terms of what's up and doing and what's not!

That's why I love Surrey's blogs, Tuesdaybear.
I'm waiting for the reveal of the African themed section of his garden, complete with lions.
I've been to Lidls & bought a pith helmet to sort of get in the swing of it.
C'mon, Surrey, bring out a gnu or something to give us a taster. ;-)
2 May, 2013
Lol Mouldy, yes African blog later this year I have more waiting to flower....
Thanks Tuesdatbear, The flame/fire lily is the perennial nasturtium but common name is flame or fire lily. Hope yours will be ok, they can be a bit awkward sometimes.
2 May, 2013
That's interesting, Surrey.
Until the start of March I was only aware of one type of nasturtium, as an alternative salad ingredient, then learnt of a climbing one to help cover my trellising.
I'd intended asking you at a later date about the flame lily.
Now I know there's at least three types.
Cheers mate.

Nice to see stuff coming isn't it Slad? I was chuffed when I saw my Turks cap lily pushing through yesterday...with two stems for the first time ever! Some of my new Hostas have peeped up.....just....which is really exciting...and lilies are pushing up here and there. Not much action on any of my roses yet though. The cold has them stuck in time, as are most of my trees. My poor Cornus Mas tried to flower in March but was frosted (which really takes some doing to it...a real toughie), so no fruits on that this year, which is sad. but having said that, I'd be so pleased just to see some leaves on it now! The good news is my tulips are almost out, so when I get back from the Keukenhof gardens on Monday, I will have something to remind me of the beautiful tulips there....all being well! Hope you have a good weekend...sorry you joined in with our cold weather!
