Fountains in Spain

Hi all often at this time of year my thoughts turn to the sunny days spent walking in gardens and the countryside. Last year the OH and I went to Andalucía and spent many a happy time visiting some courtyard gardens and hill walking in the Sirra Nevada. I noticed on our garden visits how much water paid a great part in most of the courtyards. I do love to see water in a garden, it adds so much life and interest I think. Here are a few photos I took, sorry if the quality is not good in some of the snaps. I have include a few photos of the countryside, if you can get away from the tourist traps it is a very peacefully and beautiful country.

We loved it here at Zahara de la Sierra, the countryside was amazing.

You can feel the warmth looking at the pics Teds! The fifth one down...shady courtyard with central Palm..is stunning and reminded me of Marrakech. Oh, to live in a place where you have to create cool shade! ;)...Not really, I would hate it after a month...too hot! I would like to see more of Spain. I loved Nerja when we stayed there a couple of years ago, and Barcelona is incredible too. Their evening culture is lovely, and the Spanish Guitars.....bliss!

I loved this shady courtyard, it was a very hot day in Córdoba so it was lovely to find some gardens to explore. It was a very welcome spot to rest and very peaceful from the hustle and bustle of the city. I do love all the little secret gardens of the med they are gems when you find them. We are going to Venice in April and I have found lots of little green places in the city to visit. What would we do without the internet?, and some are off the tourist root. Most people think of Venice as a water world, but it dose have gardens in the city and on the outlying lagoons. I was surprised to find them when I started looking. I Will put up some photos on our return.

Thank you Steragram, that's very kind of you. Should I put the comfrey roots under glass? or can they go out into the ground now.

Let's not forget the beautiful window boxes above our heads, the canaries singing their hearts out in their cages hanging out the windows as one walks down the narrow Calle. I have seen in some of those cooling courtyards some of the most exquisite decorative tile. Once you have seen Venice's wonderful patio and terrace gardens, take a walk around Venice after dark, it is a mysterious and magical experience that you will always remember.

Glad you all liked the pictures just thought to give a little sunshine into our winter days. I will certainly be going round Venice after dark Loosestrife. We are there for a week so we should have plenty of time to explore. I went to Venice on a day trip about 10 years ago with my 82 year old Dad. I have always wanted to take my OH there so I'm looking forward to showing him such a magical place, and this time I can go explore the lagoons as well. Paul the waterfall picture was take at Ronda it can get a bit touristy here as it is only a hour drive from the cost but still worth the visit. While here we discovered Zahra ( pic with me and the OH) about an hour drive in land from Ronda, we plan to go back next year for a week in October.

Sent you a PM Teds - just pop them in when the soil is fit, they are not in the least fussy.

Teratoonie I'm always glad to get home from holiday, I think going away helps you to appreciate the good old UK, she is such a green and pleasant land. Thank you Steragram :-) Hywel you are welcome, lets hope our summer is a good one again this year. Give that wonderful puss cat a cuddle from me, I so miss my dear cats.
