Cold porcelain flowers

Hi all! not had a lot of time to check out GOY until today, and I love all your blogs and photo’s. It would take me and age if I put up comments on them all, your gardens are looking fab and I can see there has been a lot of hard work going on, well done, glass of wine all round I think.
One of the reasons, apart from our garden for my tardiness re GOY, has been my uptake of the old craft I used to do. Some of you may remember I used to make cold porcelain flowers a few years back. Well recently I joined a craft group that meet in a local church, at the moment we have five lady members doing all manner of crafts. We spend a couple of hours working on our craft and having a chat over a cup of tea. Joining the group has motivated me to get back into making flower arrangements again.
We also spent a few weekends visiting NGS gardens which I have enjoyed, there is nothing like seeing other gardens for inspiration. We come home one weekend after visiting a garden and made the flower beds by the apple trees larger so they would get more sun.
I took a snap in the garden the other day it was a very wet, I tried to capture the rain and mood but it just ended up looking vintage I think. Hope you like the few snaps of the flowers I have made so far, and the rain picture of the garden, happy grading all till the next time.

Thank you Digginfit, the flowers do take a bit of time to get right, it will keep me happy over the winter when I can't get into the garden.

Honestly I found it really hard to convince myself that these weren't real flowers - you are so gifted! And your garden is gorgeous.

Thank you all for your kind words, I took some shots of Sidmouth the other day using the sepia mode on the phone, they didn't come out to bad Pamg the editor is OK but it doesn't capture the sent or the sound of the rain, but yes it is fun to pay around.

Thank you Oliveoil, I think anyone can make them it just takes some patience and practice. I love flowers so that helps, and it will give me something to do now the garden is more manageable.

I love that photograph of your garden and the porcelain flowers are so good, I know that I couldn't do anything like that as I have never had the patience for anything if it does not involve garden dirt, was like it as a kid and afraid I have not changed, lol....

love a bit of earth under may hands too Linclass, haven't made any flowers for a least 4 years, took be a bit of time to remember what to do. We had been so busy with the bungalow and garden, I never had time before. I started to make the flowers years ago when we lived in a flat, it was a way of being close to flowers and got me through some long winter days. There are some benefits of getting older (60 next year), I would never of dreamed all those years ago of having the garden we have now.

Its a credit to both of you Teds, I am a happy gardener again now as I can do most of the tending again, it just grieves me a bit as my lawns need cutting and I'm not yet allowed to mow them myself, I have to wait for hubby to do them, he does not see what I see, lol.....

Hey, LL...you take it steady! I cut our grass yesterday, and its hard work!

Men never do Linclass, like the loo roll that needs replacing lol etc. I'm glad you getting better and can get in the garden again. :-)
Thank you Karen that is such a kind thing to say, I learnt my craft from one of the great masters Alan Dunn. He is in my opinion one of the worlds best sugar and cold porcelain flower and cake makers. His books have been invaluable and if you think mine look real you should see Mr Dunns, they are fabulous and I would love to emulate his work.

I love the pic of your garden, it's worth framing as its a lovely view.
As for your flowers, well, I didn't know you could make them. They are gorgeous & reminded me I have just one of a carnation but its a bit top heavy.
How talented you are!

Thank your all so much for you kind words, I may do some flowers today as the weather has set in, rain all day in Devon. I don't mind rain sometimes it saves me having to water the garden. The blackbirds love the rain as it brings the worms to the surface in the lawn. I had been watching them out the window when a nuthatch turned up at the bird feeder. They are such pretty birds will try and get a photo next time he comes.

Beautiful porcelain flowers.
My sister used to make these and she also did something to ribbons and fabrics to make them look like china. In fact, have a feeling I have a tub of the stuff she used somewhere in the garden shed.
Did you ever try sugar craft, Teds? Years ago there was fashion for little crocheted baskets dipped in a sugar solution to stiffen them and then carried by flower girls at weddings.
My sister used to make these also.
We haven't seen our nuthatch for some time now. We had a pair and were sure they were nesting. Then they just vanished!

You have an amazing craft. They look like real flowers. Can you also do hummingbirds & butterflies? See where I'm going? :)

They're wonderful ... so realistic ! It's nice to have a creative hobby :)
This has made me want to start my pottery making again (not much chance of that at the moment though)

Yes Eirls I started making the flowers out of sugar paste, but one day I dropped the arrangement I hand made and it smashed. I now make them out of cold porcelain which is much more resilient.
Have made butteries Bathgate but not any birds.
Hope you get to start making your pottery soon Hywel :-)

Years ago I went to a pottery class. I was absolutely useless. I made an inkstand that leaned, like the tower of Pisa. The instructor even took pity on me and made me a bowl.
I used to wear my husband's lab. coat and it was so covered with clay it stood up by itself!
