Hi all hope you had a very happy Christmas and New Year, not much to report on the garden front at the moment. It is all looking very dull and wintery in the dell garden, there are a few evergreens and ferns to give it a bit of interest I suppose. I do have a few bulbs starting to push tips of green through, and I’m so looking forward to the first of the snowdrops and crocus to come up. Then I can believe spring will be round the corner and the colour will return to our gardens. I do have one bit of news we have a new friend who comes for the seed that has dropped out from the bird feeders. He is a wild pheasant and we have called him Glen Fiddich as he reminds us of the famous grouse in the whisky advert on TV. He comes most days and will come running up the garden when I call him. He has plucked up courage and now makes his way from the bird feeder to the patio window for seed. I hope he will feed from my hand one day soon so will keep you posted. Sorry about the play on words in the tile, but I just couldn’t resist lol

Remembering the start of summer last year!

Yes I agree, I do worry when he doesn't come we have farm land at the back of us and open countryside. Not sure wen shooting session starts, just hope he stays in our garden.

Teds! I love the title...I thought it was a New Year toast, and that you were half way down a bottle of Glen F!

Tell me, do you hum the tune as he walks over the garden :)
Watch out if you have Fritillaria, I've read that they love their flower buds!

They love raisins - might tempt him if you want him to eat from your hand!

Such beautiful birds! There is a pair of pheasants on the school site over our back wall. The male sometimes ventures into the garden. I always feel very flattered, but he doesn't stay long. Luckily they are in no danger here. I hear them far more often than I see them.

Hi Karen I see from you last blog you are away lucky you, it is so dull a dark here at the moment send us some sunshine please. Glad you liked the phleasant Glen Fiddich pun. Maybe you could get the waiter to bring you a island whisky based cocktail to sip by the pool, have a fun time!

Seaburngirl I hope your pheasant comes back to your garden.

Scottish that made me smile, I must start to hum the tune now when Glen walks up to the window lol I haven't got any Fritillaria in the garden yet, they are on my list to get for the dell so thanks for the warning.

Steragram I will get some raisins and see if I can get him to eat out of my hand, thanks for the tip.

Melchisedec Glen woke me up at 6 am the other day chucking away, needless to say I did not get out of my nice warm bed to get his breakfast lol

How lovely that you've tamed Glen F . . . we occasionally have one visit here. The first few times he got very indignant about another pheasant in the garden and used to bang his beak on the greenhouse glass. But of course the 'bird inside' was just his reflection!

Ours brought his missus to visit last year with three little ones . . . it would be brilliant if he decided to come back, but we now have a fox visiting frequently. However, there's room for all!
