Green and CHILLED

This blog follows on from our 18th August story ‘Turning Green’ …
I’d rebuilt and painted all the dog-run fence panels, using a subtle shade of green …
Conker thinks the colour blends well with his pink pavings and the pink roses !
……………………………………………………………………..
The hot summer continued …
… but the dog-run gates needed replacing …
……………………………………………………………………..
The sparrows spend many happy hours in the dog-run.
Can you spot the sparrow, wondering where the old gate has gone ?
……………………………………………………………………..
I’ve no electric saw, just the hand saw, so I cut new wooden slats, but re-used the old slanting panel …
……………………………………………………………………..
My first attempt at making a gate, but seems okay …
Please notice the colour-coordinated green hinges from Bee and Kew !
As usual, the old fence panels are useful to keep the dogs safely away from wet paint …
……………………………………………………………………..
In the front garden, the plants grew at an amazing rate … the water butt almost disappearing behind the foliage!
……………………………………………………………………..
Crocus budgie … finding it easy to be green … and chilled …
……………………………………………………………………..
For me, chilling would soon be much improved …
… because these kind, helpful delivery men arrived with my new fridge/freezer !
……………………………………………………………………..
Chilling for Truffle involved a lot of splashing …
……………………………………………………………………..
Conker preferred to dive in the deep end …
……………………………………………………………………..
There was no opportunity for a real holiday …
I haven’t had any sort of break away for over 25 years
… but there was a summer-holiday-theme photo competition in aid of an animal charity …
So Conker paused to pose on a yellow blanket in the garden … a simulated seaside scene …
… the toys and props are from my dogs’ trick routines and were all bought at charity shops such as Barnardos and Oxfam.
We won 2nd place … very pleased !
……………………………………………………………………..
Back to work, and the dogs try out the new gate …
Yes, the heights are exactly right for peeping through.
……………………………………………………………………..
The new freezer had little chance to chill the green ice cream …
……………………………………………………………………..
I removed the old dog-run side-gates one at a time …
… and I tied temporary barriers in place …
……………………………………………………………………..
I made a new wooden piece for behind the latch.
Found it easier to fix it with the latch sellotaped up.
…………………………………………………………………….
Truffle was chilled out, but Conker watched so closely that he nearly ended up with a green nose !
…………………………………………………………………….
The splish-splash sparrows enjoyed their own chill-out.
……………………………………………………………………..
Meanwhile, I’d advertised the oldest shed on FreeCycle …
The shed needed many repairs including a leaky roof …
… so I spent a busy, happy Sunday, helping a charming young man dismantle the shed and load it onto his car roof …
……………………………………………………………………..
Then he was gone … the whole shed-load !
……………………………………………………………………..
August continued … with moonlit nights and hot, happy days …
……………………………………………………………………..
The rusty white table was next for the paint brush …
My makeshift wooden lid protected the hot paint pot …
……………………………………………………………………..
The robin kept watch with his beady eye …
… staying in the cool shade … very sensible …
…………………………………………………………………….
There was nothing for it, but to devour more energy food …
…………………………………………………………………….
Table is black and shiny now …
……………………………………………………………………..
Dog-run is all ready to enjoy …
……………………………………………………………………..
The sparrows approve of the new design …
The dog-run is often overflowing with more than 30 sparrows …
… pecking and partying …
… and chucking the shingle around !
……………………………………………………………………..
At last a chance to relax for a few moments …
… here’s a great way to celebrate and chill …

Love the colour of the run. Great work!

Thanks Lijemc ..
I took a risk, investing in 4 cans of paint while they were being sold for a bargain price... so I'm pleased the colour worked out well !

Thats a really entertaining blog to read Terra but gosh you deserved your treat for chilling out, I spotted the sparrow on the post, cheeky little beggars aren't they and certainly returned in force now after their absence a few years back, I think you should have a paddling pool as well as the boys, lol......I like the colour of your fences but Crocus really stands out so wins hands down...

I love the colour too! It looks really lovely Terra. Well done!

Yes ... it was quite a relief that the green colour blended in so well ..
Thanks Sue ..
Absolutely loads of sparrows in my garden !
Must admit I sometimes get into the dogs' plastic bath and join them in a doggie paddle :o)

Great blog Tt. I enjoyed sharing our lovely long lazy summer with you and yours. You have inspired us to get started again on the garden makeover. I was beginning to think it was beyond us, but seeing what you have achieved has put fresh heart in to our endeavours. Thank you for sharing and I love that green paint job.

????? Gold stars for Team Terra ?????
what a busy happy summer surrounded by your glorious garden
looking fresh and tidy after the makeover.
Conkers looking longingly at the paintbrush, I'm sure he would be an ace painter if only you'd let him......not Truffle though!
icecream as well deserved summer treat what else xxx

You've had a busy summer TT ... lots of good work done and everything looking spick and span now :o)
Conker and Truffle make good supervisors :D

Enjoyed your blog, Terra. What a lot of work you've put in over the summer. Perhaps a holiday with the dogs next year? Can I ask how much time Truffle & Conker spend in the dog run. Do they go in there when you go out & can't take them, & when you want them out of the way when you are doing certain jobs in the garden?

No problem, J ..
Three generous scoops of chilled cappuccino ice cream are on their way to you via email as an attachment... enjoy !
Thanks Homebird ...
The gates turned out well .. the large one and two smaller ones .. I'm sure the ice-cream was a great help ;o)
Wow, Pam ..
those are lovely stars ... thanks very much ...
I'm amazed neither dog ended up painted green !
Hello Hywel ...
I'm very pleased with the dog run area ... it will make life a lot easier, especially in the winter.
Hi Feverfew ..
My dogs love to sunbathe in the dog run. In the winter it is often the only part of the garden which is dry and warm.
The run is a very useful place for the dogs when I'm mowing or painting, or up ladders .. in fact any time when I feel the dogs are safer not running loose.
My dogs scamper around the run quite a lot ... on the pavings .. and this improves their feet, rather than being too much on damp grass. So, a very useful area.

Delighted to know the cappuccino ice cream reached Alsace in pristine condition !
... no, not had Welsh cakes ... could be another good energy food... I'm already well into another exhausting garden project !
17 Sep, 2014
I enjoyed your blog very much and your sense of humor. You are quite handy with a tool kit.
18 Sep, 2014
Thanks Paul ..
I'm also quite handy with the ice-cream scoop ;o)

You've done a fantastic job Terra ! Did you cement the fence posts in ? You are so clever!
18 Sep, 2014
I"d build a dog house for a bowl of that chocolate ice cream. It looks like what I know as turtle-ice cream with pieces of nuts toffee and cookies in it. - oh yes. Do you have that?
19 Sep, 2014
Thanks, Rose ...
The fence posts were already there from the previous ancient dog run, but those old posts had not been put in well, and to be honest, it would have been easier to have cemented in new ones ! Luckily I managed to adapt them and repaint them !
Hi Bathgate ...
The ice cream I had was choc mint chip and double choc...
... but please have your spoon and bowl ready ...
... am sending you by email attachment a generous helping of Cookie Dough/Phish Food/Peanut Buttercup/Caramel Chew Chew Ice Cream ...
I hope it doesn't melt en route to NY ;o)
19 Sep, 2014
I'm waiting spoon in hand! :)
19 Sep, 2014
Should be arriving right now ...
... only slightly melted ...
19 Sep, 2014
it's better that way!

Lol. alternative blog heading ..
'Green and melted' ... ;o)

omg terra. You had such a productive summer. I always thought that I am a" ice cream monster". I am glad that I have a company. Your dog run looks fantastic. And the table too.

Hi Klahanie ..
Thanks ..
I've been very busy, and am currently tackling one final major garden project before winter arrives !
I'm wondering how long I can keep buying ice cream on the excuse of needing to 'test out the new freezer' ...
.. at least a couple more years I reckon ... ;o)
20 Sep, 2014
Really enjoyed your blog you made such a good job on the dog run , can't wait to see the next project you mentioned in the comment to Kahaine hope this glorious weather continues so you get it finished .
21 Sep, 2014
Well done Terra and the boys for creating such a great dog run ... no wonder you felt the need for ice cream! Love the paint colour too ... :o)
27 Sep, 2014
Hi Kidsgran ..
yes, I'm working non-stop on my latest project ... trying to have it finished before the weather turns chilly !
Thanks Shirley ...
I like the paint colour even more than I'd hoped ...
I thought of becoming 'ice-cream free', but my latest project really demands 'energy food' ... Lol. ;o)

Hi Dotty ...thanks for catching up with this blog ... I've had such a busy summer that I've missed some blogs too.
The dog run is a pleasure to use ... all the gates swing neatly and click into their latches effortlessly ! I hope it stays intact over the winter !
