My next door neighbour's daughter gave me a bag of unwanted sheeps' wool, I put small bits around the garden, but the birds don't seem to want it!
The pic of your garden looks almost summery, do full of colourful plants.

Hi Siris ...
the little birds seem to prefer the stiff terrier hairs mixed with the fluffy coat of the Sheltie. Maybe mix your sheep wool with the combings from your hairbrush, to make a blend of two types of hair, which the birds can weave into their nests ? 😊

garden is looking good TT. Birds are picking up lots of moss from my garden to line nests. exciting times ahead.

Its so nice to see you again Terra. The boys and the birds are looking as good as ever.

25 Mar, 2021

You have a very pretty Spring garden, Terra. The bird pics. are appealing. Great to know we can do something to help them with their tasks.

Thanks Yorkslass...
Boys and birds have been enjoying the sunshine. 😊

Hi Anget... thank you... the little birds prefer to collect the nest-building hair from the dog-run area, quite early in the mornings. It is fascinating, watching the birds cram more and more fur into their beaks ... sometimes struggling to fly away with such large clumps of hair. 😊

25 Mar, 2021

all lovely as ever.

Lovely blog & great photos. I put out all the cat hair that I collect in a bird feeder. It seems to be disappearing, though I haven't actually seen them taking it.

26 Mar, 2021

Lovely pics, Terra! Those little busy birds are adorable aren’t they! Just sat watching them is so relaxing and captivating I have to say...I can imagine you’re the same.
Your garden is looking very neat and tidy too!

Thanks Paul, Drc, Feverfew and Kate ...
Interesting how some types of hair, wool and fur seem especially attractive and useful for little birds to select for making nests. The bluetits, robins etc in my garden, like to collect hair in the early mornings, from around my dog-run area.
It is lovely, isn't it, to see our gardens developing a spring-time look. 😊.

26 Mar, 2021

Oh my, could that little Bluetit have crammed any more in its beak! Great photos Terra . . . keep safe . . . :o)

26 Mar, 2021

Hi Shirley ..
Thanks. Often a small bird picks up a cluster of dog hair which is bigger than the bird itself. This means that flying away to the nest is a challenge. If the bird accidentally drops half of the hair, then another bird swoops in to claim it. 😊

Nature is wonderful isn't it? We have a very shabby looking nest from last year which we have left alone in case the Blackbird comes back to it. Certainly not looking a 'des. res.' though . . . :o(

26 Mar, 2021

I do love your blogs Terra! Those birds are very busy and the blue tit certainly! Its a wonder he could carry it all!
I love your helpers, especially their hats!

26 Mar, 2021

Shirley... It seems that sometimes, especially over winter, a bird will use an old nest as a place to gain some shelter, even if not for rearing nestlings. So 'any port in a storm', becomes 'any ancient nest in a storm' 😊

26 Mar, 2021

Hi Rose..
Thank you... my dogs love dressing up...
they both want to wear every hat they see. 😊😊
The garden birds are getting more busy. Today, the weather is stormy, so tomorrow I must remember to put out extra dog hair around the rockery, for the little birds to repair their nests. 😊

Its a pleasure to see your spring garden again Terra , always looks so pretty, Neptune and Truffle on alert, waiting for any stray bits of fluff that might fall onto the lawn, they should give my two a few lessons in tidiness, lovely photo's of the birds, I am always amazed how much they can carry in their little beaks, the tit family are especially amusing when they shred the pampas grass and take away huge fronds, lol..
Soon be time for Easter bonnets Terra..xx

26 Mar, 2021

Thanks Sue ..
Yes.. one tiny beak can carry a huge cluster of dog hair... amazing. 😊
Easter Bonnet time... we are eager for that. 😊😊

26 Mar, 2021

I used to put out soft cat's hair when I had a feline that moulted. It would go in the centre of a large shrub rose. It was astonishing how quickly the bluetits and greats found it. Watching them was much more interesting than doing the washing -up!

26 Mar, 2021

Anget ...
Robins, bluetits and great tits are fascinating to watch aren't they. I like to imagine the baby birds all cosy in their fur-lined nests. 😊

26 Mar, 2021

Anget, anything we see through our kitchen windows is more interesting than doing the washing up!

I loved all your pics. TT, of the birds with their beaks full of dog hairs! Reminds of the years when I had hanging baskets lined with coconut liners, the birds were always pulling bits of them out! πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚

Have to agree with your first sentiment, Balcony!!

26 Mar, 2021

Thanks Balcony...
Yes, the birds are very adept at finding suitable materials for nest-building. 😊

26 Mar, 2021

I’m thinking I’ll toss out some cat hair and some of my own!!!☺️

26 Mar, 2021

Kate...
your blend of human hair and cat coiffeur sounds like a sure winner for the nest builders. 😊

Cheers, thanks TerraπŸ‘πŸ˜

Spring has definitely arrived in your garden TT, and I'm glad to see you've got plenty of help from Truffle and Neptune :)
Nice to see the little birds are busy too :)

So lovely to see your garden and its inhabitants once more. Everything is obviously thriving and is being so well looked after.
Good to see you here again.

We are very much looking forward to warmer weather.😊

Hello Hywel...
Thank you. 😊. In my gardens, my dogs are doing more work than I am. 😁 Yes, lots of little birds active now. Yesterday a pair of robins were flirting close to my house. I've not yet worked out where they are nesting, but I hope will be close by.

Hi Mossy .. thank you
... robins are very photogenic, aren't they 😊
My dogs help a lot in my garden.. the area would look very untidy without their assistance. 😁

Lovely cheery blog Terratoonie, great photos as well. Love the garden helpers, they are very photogenic!

I haven't seen any Robins yet on the balcony but I did see a Wren on the table on the balcony a couple of days ago as I was opening the living room curtains. In 20 years of living in this flat it's the first time I've ever seen one on the balcony! Perhaps I'll see a Robin on the balcony again some day - hopefully in less than another 20 years!!! πŸ˜‚

Thanks Numbersfarm ...
I'm lucky to have those garden helpers...
my gardens would soon become neglected without their assistance. 😁

Hi Balcony ..
How nice to see a wren so close to your house. A couple of years ago, I was working up a ladder when I noticed some wren fledglings nearby, about to leave their nest, and I was able to take a couple of photos of these babies before they flew off and disappeared into the shrubs. 😁

How lucky you were, TT! πŸ˜‚
