Plants (Action for species 3)

A pretty set of first class stamps coming up …..

Issue Date ~ Tuesday 19 May 2009

Plants – Action for Species is a stunning set of Special Stamps featuring delicate, botanical paintings capturing the beauty of ten of the UK’s most endangered plants.

The Plants stamp issue celebrates the vital part flora plays in our planet’s bio-diversity and is the third in Royal Mail’s Action for Species series, which looks at the UK’s endangered flora and fauna. The first in the series, Birds, was issued in September 2007, the second, Insects, was issued in April 2008.
~ more details my Blog Number 13.

To celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew a Miniature Sheet of four stamps will be issued on the same date. Kew has a lead role in conserving biodiversity through its scientific and conservation work.

Royal Mail is also producing a Presentation Pack, First Day Cover, Stamp Cards and a Press Sheet, to accompany the Action for Species – Plants stamp issue.

The plants on the ten first class stamps are :

Lady’s Slipper Orchid
Deptford Pink
Downy Woundwort
Dwarf Milkwort
Floating Water Plantain
March Saxifrage
Plymouth Pear
Roundheaded leek
Sea Knotgrass
Upright Spurge

More details with pictures of the stamps on the Royal Mail website.
