I thought maybe he was having a bad hair day. :o)
7 Nov, 2009
Well I 'think' that is mosquito netting on his hat - getting ready to go off up the Amazon? Not dealing with bees or wasps... no gloves on and wrong time of year.
7 Nov, 2009
Ooops :o)
7 Nov, 2009
Lol....I'm not sure what he's up too...but Halloween was last weekend :))

7 Nov, 2009
Knats the scots call them midges as I lived with my daughters dad for nearly 5 yrs and he was a scot lol
7 Nov, 2009
Midges... the west coast ones are blooming vicious!
7 Nov, 2009
I'll remember to entertain only East Coast midges :o)
7 Nov, 2009
I found that out when he came at me with a carving knife at my throat lol he he ha ha
7 Nov, 2009
Sitting here laughing at your comments - please keep them coming
7 Nov, 2009
Nah we need a hint or a clue...
7 Nov, 2009
The clue moongrower is my answer and Qinine they use to use to stop causing the illness they cause
7 Nov, 2009
Not convinced Morgana he got bare arms... the midges will go for any bare skin! We've tried various things to keep them off - none of the really work. Mr MB and our son were camping once when they came home everything was covered in a layer of midges jam, butter... you name it. All had to go in the bin.
7 Nov, 2009
Is he auditioning for a vacant presenter position on Gardeners' World ?
Should get the job....really handsome :o)
7 Nov, 2009
Oh well don't say I did nt give a clue. I well imagine every thing was covered, I know what they are like down here.
7 Nov, 2009
You're going on a blind date.

7 Nov, 2009
Lol...I'm enjoying this.....:)))))
7 Nov, 2009
We've loved your suggestions, you guys really have got a sense of humour -but I have to tell you the answer is simple ........
No he's not tending bees & he's not shy ........ we have a lot of midges & mosquitos here & they bite ! He has got bare arms but he's a heuchter cheuchter. The price to pay in living in such an idealic spot.
7 Nov, 2009
He could of had a perm and his net slipped he he
7 Nov, 2009
Mosquitos bite give you maleria quinine helps maleria lol Moon grower I did give you clues
7 Nov, 2009

Yay....you were right Morgana :)))
I was just coming back on to ask if it was a new type of infection control for swine flu....
7 Nov, 2009
lol don't give them any ideas if they go short of selling these I would nt put it past them to say it was a protection, they perposely release these viruses, I watched a documentry a few weeks ago early hours of the morning. I cheated it was oh the cottage gardeners pictures he he he remind me of the program Tenko in the 80s do you remember it quinine.
7 Nov, 2009
Quinine is in tonic water....therefore a daily G&T is very good for you, Morgana :)
7 Nov, 2009
Hic... I'll drink to that Crazydi!
7 Nov, 2009
Cheers Mrs MB :))
7 Nov, 2009
lol Mothers ruin Gin do not like to bitter for me, fizzy drinks I do not like its bad for the bones I have osteoarthritis, also if you dehydrate you should only drink water nothing else as tonic water my mum use to drink she asked for some in hospital she had a tripple A op and she was dehydrateing, my daughter told me about this as she is a carrer, she told me not to buy her any as it makes you dehydrate more only water is any good no pops or diluted pop either. Handy to know these things I think.
7 Nov, 2009
Bottoms up... well perhaps not lol
7 Nov, 2009
Lol hope you two are not driving he he lol:o)
7 Nov, 2009
Morgana....thanks for the advice re "Mothers Ruin" etc....I shall take it onboard, and only drink tap water from now on, with maybe a small bitter lemon at Christmas (another good source of quinine :)))
Mrs MB...I am shocked at your suggestion....Lol xxx
PS. Not driving Morgana, but have just set the smoke alarm off....mother has ruined the tea!!!
7 Nov, 2009
Tonic water is ok but if you are dehydrating it will make you dehydrate more, as too with alchol. I will try the bitter lemon as long as I can find one thats not fizzy. lol you did it purposely with the fire alarm so you can have a nice fire man at the door he he ha ha lol

Sorry I'm late to this one Cottage Gardner. I'm really sorry to show my ignorance, but what is a 'heutcher cheuchter' ??? My mind is boggling !! lol ;-)))
8 Nov, 2009
I've probably spelled it wrong - but my understanding is that it's a slang scottish word for tough, resourceful - anyway, it was meant in the context that he's a hardman & can handle having the midges bite his bare arms. lol
8 Nov, 2009
It's a term for traditional Scottish dance or folk music, Sue. Thought everybody knew that - not! lol
8 Nov, 2009
LOL !! I love hearing the regional slang expressions. He's a real roughie toughie then ! ;-))
8 Nov, 2009
From a scots dictionary...
heuchter-teuchter: derogatory term for traditional Scottish dance or folk music
8 Nov, 2009
Seems to mean something different depending on the area. Scots Dictionary says it is most commonly used by city folk to describe rural dwellers. A Teuchter is a person who comes from the Highlands & likes a wee dram.
There is also some reference to Scottish dancing & folk music.
The Cottage Gardener likes a wee dram (whisky) & he is also a singer, hence the "heucher-teuchter" ref.
8 Nov, 2009
That is the challenge isn't it... same words can have different meanings and don't get me started on the Doric...
8 Nov, 2009
We kin hae a lot a fun here we wordies.:)
9 Nov, 2009
lol
9 Nov, 2009
Having come somewhat late to this great blog....I was vastly amused at all the suggestions offered and have to admit that I too was puzzled by the Cottage Gardener's headgear!! Nevertheless in my book at least - a heuchter-teuchter or heuchter-cheuchter, is what city dwellers historically called Highlanders...prone to drinking or dancing or not!!! And the nearest we use on the east coast at least is a local yokel.....and of course in the USA the equivalent would be a red-neck!!!
Either which way - you sure caused some merriment - and I am still curious as to the headgear... now if he had been sporting a Tam O'Shanter ....and we might have got there quicker!!
12 Nov, 2009
Alzheimer - "slainte vhar" from the CG. We can have swarms of midges & mossies here in May & June, so on the early summer nights we need to wear midge hats to try to stop the wee blighters from biting. Wee beesties wae bit teeth in Scotland !
12 Nov, 2009
CLANG!! the penny has dropped...at last..LOL I'm afraid when the gnats start nipping on this side of the country....I can't even stand bare arms...I get eaten alive and usually have to admit defeat and retreat as the little sods reach parts that others dare not reach!!!!!! Watering chores in the evening are just that - a chore!!
