Newts

I have had my wildlife pond now for two and a half years.
Today whilst cleaning some thread algae from the pond I saw my first newt.
We have plenty of tadpoles for the last two years but this is the first newt.
Happy days.

It proves the pond is working well with nature.

We have had newts for the last two or three years but I wish didn't. They have caused a big reduction in our toad and frog population because they eat their spawn. The friend that gave us the newts did warn us because the same thing happened to the spawn that we give her years ago. Sorry about the doom and gloom. Nice pond by the way.

i think your wildlife pond is awesome. its a good size with a good mix of of plants water banks and rocks. should be able to support an eco system that alow frogs toads and newts ;-))

great news, but Hameryllis is right about the reduction of the frong and toad population, I've had to take the frog spawn out of the pond and put it elswhere, the newts just eat it, so be very watchful in March time. x
