Recycling..

Out in the garden today getting rid of stuff I don,t need when I remembered I had these old car tyres.
I thought i,d try to make some planters with them instead of throwing them out, so I let the air out and started cutting with a stanley knife and ended up with this after i,d turned them inside out.
a quick coat of paint later and here are a couple of planters for nothing..
These will be perfect for my new baby hosta’s for next year.

Very clever. Another way I've seen them used is the tyres kept as they were and stacked on top of each other then planted with potatoes. As the potatoes need earthing up, add another tyre and soil/compost. Then as the potatoes grow, you can take the tyres off and check their progress without disturbing them if not yet ready to pick!

Good bit of recycling. Have seen these years ago cut into swan shapes but haven't a clue how to do it though you could I'm sure judging by the results with this one

This is brillinat!
how very clever no one would think they were tyres, no chance of them blowing over either!
well done

They look grand Usernut...well done you! There are far too many dumped tyres in the country. Was it easy to turn them inside out? Nothing against your paint...it looks fab... but I think I'd like them au naturel!
My brother did the potato thing last year Paul & it worked very well.

thanks..
Fluff, I actually think it looks better natural as well, when I uploaded the pic I saw the natural one behind it and it looks better..
will keep this one for the back and the 2 natural ones for the front.

look brilliant, love the crinkly edge, nice touch.

Brilliant, well done - how did you manage to get that wavy edge so regular. You must be a dab hand with a stanley knife. I prefer au naturel as well, somehow more impressive if you can see what it might have been originally.

Bamboo, the top of the sidewall on the tyre is soft, so easily cut.

San, i,d never seen sweet peas ever before, till I saw some pics on here.. lovely flowers but no-one ever mentioned the pea pods LOL.
My wife had a fit of laughing today when I told her about my sweet pea seedlings ;-)
