Roses

I bought quite a few roses last autumn and as I’ve not really frown roses before I’m pleased with how they have turned out. Hope you like what you see too. It’s a pity we haven’t got ‘scratch and sniff’ as they all have a perfume of one kind or another.
The Fighting Temeraire
Zephirine Drouhin
The Lark Ascending.
Special Anniversary
Ruby Wedding.
Others are still in bud, but about to burst soon :))

Beautiful colours Waddy - I love roses - but we seem to get black spot a lot - but we do have an old moss rose that flowers endlessly - and has a wonderful perfume - Jane

It was one of the problems I worried about Jane, but I was lucky enough to get talking to one of the rose gardeners at Alnwick Castle Garden's. He told me the secrets were to spray at the first sign of the leaves appearing and to be a good housekeeper, in otherwords clear up any dead plant material from around the roses. He assured me that should keep all pests etc at bay. I may be speaking too soon, but so far (touch wood) it appears to be working :)

Yes, I think early spraying is the only solution...sadly. Mine aren't too bad for the dreaded spot so far. Your roses are all lovely!

...and Iam liking my Fighting Temeraire much better this year. Roses are always so much better in their second year. :)

I do love roses and the most fragrant in our garden at the moment is the Z.Droughin. It is absolutely gorgeous and can smell it all around the garden. They all look really lovely !

Thank you Rose :))

I love David Ausin roses and am very tempted by the fighting temeraire. My roses are suffering somewhat from black spot, but I'm scared to spray in case I harm wildlife. Does your fungus spray cause any problems for creatures and birds? If not, which is it? I,M getting a bit desperate:-(

I have used Rose Clear Ultra. I've only needed to spray at the very first sign of leaf buds and nothing since. It does say to spray early in the day to avoid the bees, but as I sprayed so early in the season, that wasn't much of a problem anyway.

Beautiful roses :)

Thanks Waddy, I worry about my hard working sparrows who regularly clear the greenfly from my roses ..... I worry about everything lol:-) I wonder if they would be savvy enough not to eat dead greenfly etc. When I first started gardening, I used the old Rose Clear without a second thought .... now I'm terrified to use anything:-( I must wait 'til the start of next season now and make sure there is just too much seed and suet around for the birds to even think of eating anything else:-)

Thanks Hywel.
BA, I don't have any problems with sparrows, there's not many around here for some reason. Cottagekaren has big problems with them.

Lovely roses - you choice some beauties. I have often been tempted by Zephirine Drouhin as I am attracted by the idea of a thornless rose :)

I can see where the fighting temaraire gets its name, its stunning
lark ascendings delicate like the music (a favorite of mine)
we did have the Z drouhin years ago, yours look perfect, no thorns if I remember
the two wedding ones are lovely too
to add a cliche "its a good year for the roses :0)"
