A perfect autumn day.???☀️

When the wind has dropped, the skies have cleared and the sun has been shining, it makes a perfect autumn day.
I think there is something very special about each lovely day at this time of year because I appreciate it just a little bit more than in the summer months.

These sunflowers came from a local farm shop where we were able to pick the ones we liked the best.
They were the ‘Pick your own’ crop which followed the strawberries and came before the pumpkins!

The best autumn colour outside, the at the moment, is the Virginia creeper growing on part of our house. You will see from the second photo that it has reached the roof now and is growing along the gutters!

These multi coloured tomatoes have done well in the green house but as for flavour, give me red ones every time!

A lonely Discovery apple left on the tree, sweet corn grown on the vegetable patch, which survived a battering from very strong winds a few days ago.

More colours remaining in September.

We nearly decided to go out today but I am so pleased that we stayed put instead! I was able to get lots of plants into the green house. They have been dotted all around the garden but were ready to come ‘indoors’ again.

I then planted a selection of spring bulbs which are now in the cold frame away from the mice ( hopefully!)

I hope they will look as good as the pictures on the packets! It is nice thinking ahead to springtime.

Finally ( I bet you are all breathing a sigh of relief here!) some new pansies and a recently replanted trough by the back door.
I have really enjoyed today, mainly because I have just about got over a nasty virus, and to be outdoors, and to be feeling better was so nice!
Thank you for joining me.

Im glad to hear you are well again Chris. Even if I didn't know you were under the weather. I agree with you, I enjoy the good days at this time of year so much more and am more grateful for them. Sadly we haven't had a good day for a long time now, but a couple of good hours is a blessing. Can you tell me please...how is it that you and a few others can put special characters and emoticons in their comments, but I don't have any success with them?

What a rewarding day you've had Wildrose - makes me feel very idle as all I did was lunch at a carvery and then sit with a book all afternoon in the conservatory.

Sorry to hear you've had a nasty virus - hopefully a good day out in the sunshine will help to put you on top form again. Your pansies are so pretty aren't they?

Karen I use the IPad to put everything on here. On the left of the space bar is a smiley face and there is a choice of pictures on various themes.
I hope the better weather finds you very soon. Your garden is looking wonderful and deserves to be shrouded in sunshine.

Stera, I think the way you spent your day was lovely. In fact I might try to do something similar tomorrow, but unfortunately the carvery will have to be here - there is half a roast chicken to eat up!

Sorry you've been unwell but glad to know you were able to spend some time outside today.
You've got a lot done. I also enjoy planting bulbs and looking ahead to the spring, but autumn is a lovely season too.

So much colour out there to enjoy still I agree, Wildrose. The troughs look particularly nice and I'm sure come spring, those bulbs will look fantastic.
Sorry to hear you've been unwell...I'm fighting a virus myself at the moment...nasty little beggers aren't they?

I remember you saying Hywel that it is enjoyable planning ahead for the spring. Each season has its appeal, but to me some seasons have more appeal than others!!

Viruses seem to like me and when I get one it tends to stay!!! I hope you are getting over yours, a virus is a bit like a wasp - no use whatsoever!!

Glad you are feeling better, some fresh air is a tonic.
Those lovely edibles will help your recovery, all grow with love, and the Autumn colour will warm your soul.

Thanks Chris. I shall look in to that on my Ipad! :) Thanks for your compliment too :)

A day spent in the garden is as much a treat as going out far as I'm concerned Wildrose, even more so at this time of the year, we will be stopped soon enough so don't blame you, we have to make the most of what sunshine we are having, I'm gradually moving things back inside as well but haven't yet got around to even buying any fresh bulbs let alone planting them, tidying up a bit for me is mainly deadheading, I'm determined to hang onto my flowers as long as possible.
Your garden always looks good to me, the red on your house is stunning, pansies look really pretty, I too have just planted some in my mangers, I love viola's and pansies, silly woman I forgot to pop some crocus and mini daffs underneath them though, I had to go back to look for your pond, lol.....Been trying to get rid of a chest infection, its annoying me more than anything so feel for you, some things take ages to get rid of...

Nope...I put the smileys in on my ipad, but they don't appear in my comment once I enter it. Doh!

I feel so much better Karen, I can't ever get them to work either, lol....

Lincslass I am so sorry that you too are in the ' I hate chest infections gang!' They really drag you down and in my case they stay with me for too long. I do hope that you feel a lot better soon.
Thanks so much for all the positive things you said.......as for our pond, you won't be seeing that until it has been cleared out! It has far too many Iris in it and is really 'clogged up!'

Siris, I think I am getting over it now. I too love the fresh air and much prefer being outdoors than indoors, on a nice day anyway!!
I like the house to be clean and tidy but hate doing it!!! Once I am in the garden I am much happier!

I'm glad to hear you're feeling much better Chris I'm prone to chest complaints and know from experience its not much fun ..I love the autumn colours I can't say anything nice about the weather this year but normally we have those lovely mellow golden sunny days in September which show the colours even more gloriously , I even like getting tucked down in front of my wood burner in the winter but then its not long before I'm itching for spring to arrive ,there's something special about every season isn't there ... ...I can't get those smiley faces on my computer I haven't anything like a smiley face key ....I have the old windows 7 computer with a keyboard so probably very out of date but I'm happy with it .......

Amy, I hardly dare say it but today I felt better than I have for a week or two and I have only coughed once!!
It has been such a mixed summer that it just disappointed didn't it?
This week we have actually had two beautiful days in a row which really lifts the spirits and as you say, encourages the rich Autumn colours.
We went down into Cornwall which really did look lovely. The good weather will come to you - there is still time (says she hopefully!!)
The smiley key is on our Apple IPad so maybe it is unique to this make, I am not sure.

Amy - we are meeting up with one son and his family this weekend so I wonder which friendly little germ they will pass on to me?! Whenever I am with our lovely grand children I always catch something!!

I've finally got round to commenting on your lovely blog and photo's ,Chris..I had seen it earlier in the week, but you know how it is,sometimes time passes by ..Your Virginia creeper is beautiful.and your garden is looking so lovely ..All those Pelargoniums you have taken in,are going to give you another wonderful display next year.. I do envy you having a Discovery Apple tree...one of my favourites..and such a nice selection of fresh veg too...
Have a wonderful time with your family this weekend..good job you are feeling much better now,as those two little boys will be running you ragged ! xx

21 Sep, 2017

Thanks so much Sandra and as long as we don't get a really cold winter, the pelargoniums might just survive! I will be honest with you and let you know the truth!

Discovery apples ARE good aren't they? Wish I could give you a bag full over the garden gate!

Yes, I am getting mentally prepared for the energy, enterprise and enthusiasm of two seven year olds!! Their other gran is joining us so that will ease the work load!! As long as I get a regular coffee ( and cake ) stop I hope to come through it relatively unscathed.

Have a lovely time. xx

Chris I was fed up with catching colds / chest complaints pleurisy etc. I tried a trick i read about it involves smearing a tiny amount of Vaseline round the inside of your nose before going to shops or expecting young visitors it sounds odd but I can honestly say since sticking to this in the winter months we haven't succumbed to the dreaded germs for the last two years ...fingers crossed ... touch wood ....

Amy, many thanks for this tip. I shall certainly do what you suggested next time we meet up with 'littluns!'
I have just found this, so am a bit late for the recent get together, but will be well prepared for the next one!!
