A lovely autumnal walk with a bonus surprise at the end!

The photos were taken in Simmonds Park in Okehampton yesterday and everywhere did look very pretty indeed.

We then decided to drive up onto the edge of Dartmoor near the army camp.

Full manouevres were taking place and we were allowed to watch – which is most unusual!
It was really fascinating and quite an education! They were so close to us that we could see all the camouflage make up on their faces.
They looked so young that I didn’t want any of them to have to face danger in their lives and to just be able to carry on practising instead!

Some days out just have an element of surprise in them!

Lovely pictures , I too like the first one, would look lovely on a calendar, and that’s why getting out for a walk can sometimes give you a surprise, it’s a good job Sargent major didn’t see you take those pics 😀

You were lucky - you could have been arrested tor spying!
Just love the river photos - there's nothing does it for me like a small river and lots of trees... Let hope those young men never have to meet a bigger military challenge than manoevers...

Lovely pics, Chris. What a lovely day you had weather-wise and scenery-wise also. The colours are very pretty, have to agree with Julien, they wouldn’t look amiss on a calendar.

Amy that is a lovely story. Such a nice memory.

Amy which did you mean by the hard way? Did you venture up the Red Wall or the one on the other side whose name I forget?
