Neomarica northiana

Here is one you have probably never heard of. It is really hard to find a source for seeds or plants. I did manage to have a swap with someone, and finally it is flowering.
Neomarica is in the Iridaceae family and is native to Brazil. I think it got too much sun, so there is leaf burn.

The buds on this are strange in that they are very flat.

I was surprised to see how many buds were getting ready to open at the same time.

Then, they open for a grand display.

They look like little Iris’, but the color and markings are unusual.

I received one piece, but it has multiplied very fast, so I will divide it in the fall and try putting some in the ground to see how it does.

wow that is a stunning iridacea. Clearly follows the pattern of them.

I had seen the name as I find this family very inspiring but never seen a picture of one.

That is unusual Wylie...Will make a note of it.Thank you for showing it.I've read it is called Walking Iris...does it spread?

Since this is the first time it has flowered, I am hoping little plants will form so it can "walk". It is supposed to be able to take a lot of shade, so I will be trying it in a couple of shady spots, maybe even my woods. I have a hybrid one that will be opening soon.

It's certainly an unusual plant, Wylie! I like the flowers. too! Do they remain open for long? Does it flower over a long period of time?

Wow, beautiful

The flowers are open for only 1 day, but I have so many plants that do this, it is not a problem for me. They are also open all day, something not all flowers do (especially Moraea). There are, however, a lot of buds, so it should flower over a long period of time.

Thanks for that info, Wylie! Enjoy them!
