Another group of Hippeastrums

This site in the Netherlands had a special sale of Hippeastrums. Some registered, others not. But limited quantities, so I got up at 6AM for when the sale started. Living this far west can have disadvantages, like a 2 hour time difference. It’s a good thing I got up that early because things sold out very quickly.

One of the bulbs I got was a cross of H. papilio and H. organense. Labled 00114-N.

You can see the strong influence of the H/ papilio, while H. organense is red.

Another one I got is labled 98312-B. This is a combination of a cybister type with a pollen parent that was a combination of H. papilio x H. macchpicchuensis.

I also went for another cybister type because they are very architectural. This is ‘Tarantula’.

The fourth one I chose is an unusual double yellow. The flowers aren’t as large as some of the other doubles, but it does have a green throat that I like. H. ‘Yellow Cream’.

You would think that this is where it would end, but they were also have a special where you would receive a free bulb for every one you bought. I hadn’t paid too much attention to that and thought it was for their regular bulbs. Surprise – they included it in this order.

The first was ‘Pink Surprise’.

Next is ‘Terra Cotta Star’ (and it really is a star).

Then there is ‘Silver Dream’.

And finally one spectacular ‘Dancing Queen’. It is orange striped, double, and large.

Krull didn’t get in the way this time of taking photos, but he is getting big.

I especially like the first & last photos. What lovely plants & what a big beautiful cat. My cat is 19 today. She is always asleep these days but occasionally goes outside to nibble the Nepeta.

Wow! You really showed some dedication getting up so early for the sale! Gorgeous plants. :)

19 is an incredible age for a cat. Krull likes to spend the entire day outside and only comes in to eat or sleep at night.
I wanted the 2 unregistered ones because of their unusual genes, so it was worth it to get up early.

Really beautiful plants, Wylie! I love them all!

I have had 3 Amaryllis flowering on our living room table but 2 have now finished while the third is just starting to go over a little.
