CASTLE BOLTON BUILT IN 1350, MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS WAS IMPRISONED HERE

Yesterday we decided to have a day out, we travelled up to North Yorkshire to Castle Bolton, the weather was lovely and few people there, car parking was £3, but they gave you that back when you paid the admittance fee which was £7 each, they have a cafe there in the first floor and we stopped for a nice lunch before looking around, it was very interesting, we watched a Falcon display, any of you that may have watched The Dales Programme on a monday evening would have seen the owner of the castle trying to train a Tawney Owl to carry a wedding ring, we asked yesterday if we could see the owl and sadly we were told it died on Sunday, I believe she said the age of it was 13,There was also a school party of boys and girls there, all dressed up in the old costumes they looked lovely, and when we walked out into the courtyard they all stood up and bowed taking off their hats and calling my husband M Lord, hope you enjoy my photos, and our trip out.

Fantastic blog Yorks. I haven't seen Bolton Castle for a long time. I'm always astounded how thick castle walls were/are. Loved the views and the falcon and owl. Thanks for bringing back some memories. :o)

Good blog, Yorkshire!

Apparently (or so the story goes), when they cut off MQS's head, they found a small dog hiding in her red petticoat! Looking at that bedroom, it had probably been there for years sheltering from the cold and the damp, lol!
