Countdown to opening

It’s that time of year again when my diary is empty for a week as I make final preparations for the Open Garden on Sunday.
It’s been an “interesting” year, with a long winter, the Beast from the East, and the hottest and driest summer for more than forty years. Some plants have loved the conditions but others have been less impressed, and a few have shown their dislike by dying.
So if you’re anywhere near Bracknell on 19th August, please drop in, say hello, and support the National Garden Scheme. We’re open from 1:30 until 5:30pm this year as there are two gardens plus allotments to inspect. Plants and produce are for sale at ‘Devonia’, and teas with scrummy home-made cakes at the other garden.

No, I hope it rains for us all ! A drop of rain doesnt hurt anyone. All our plants enjoy it. Just one day in the week here according to the BBC forecast on line.

Diane - showers would be OK, but torrential downpours keeps people away. I was helping at a garden one year in heavy rain, and we had nine visitors in three hours and that included a famly of five from next door who took pity on us.

Rain every day but that one please Mr Weather Man. Andrew works so hard in his garden to get it perfect and he has such interesting plants -we hope it won't be rained off. Wishing you every success Andrew.
Diane we certainly do need rain though -you probably know that the poor farmers here even in the rainiest part of the country have harvested only one crop of silage instead of the usual three, and because the grass han't regrown in the drought thy have had to start using that already to supplement what's in the fields. But lets wish Andrew one sunny day in amongst it all, while we hope for another grass crop in the fields!

I would just love to come, Andrew. We visited Karen yesterday but I think Bracknell is a bit too far from Glasgow. Good luck on the 19th.

Thanks Linda. Looks like you enjoyed your visit to Karen

Well here's wishing you every success. It's amazing how well NGS Gardens open for charity, do.
When I visited Older Son in Surrey a fortnight ago he said 400+ people had viewed his garden and quite a lot had enjoyed a cuppa. His fellow gardeners also had a field day. No doubt the good weather helped with the excellent turn-out.

Best of luck, may it rain the night before and be fresh and bright for your big day.

Thank you Honeysuckle. It's pouring with rain at the moment, so I'm putting together all the information sheets for the plants we are selling
