RAIN STOPS PLAY.........AT SPINDLES!!

Tipping it down now, and looks as if it is in for the duration, also blooming cold, more like March in the Midlands than March in the warm and sunny South (hollow laugh!!) so it has to be blog time, or housework, now which one?

As some of you may remember we took out the pond, (nothing unusual there, everything gets moved at least twice in this garden) the pond being an old whiskey barrel minus the whiskey!! so where was I? dreaming about the whiskey probably…. oh yes ! it was moved to the tropical area and left above the ground, where it has been all winter, we were looking for a square pond, well more oblong, but could not find anything that would fit the bill…….

OH said why not put the barrel back, and put it where we can see it from the garden room….. good thinking OH!! he’s quick like that sometimes!! so that is what we have done, but the ground sloped and we had to build it up, so I said why not have a raised bed and we can grow things to eat? pat on the back for me lol

Well after all that waffle, here are the photos, complete with wildlife!! sorry Karen! can you see the frog?

For those who want to know the finer details, they are as follows……around the pond Hosta Touch of Class and a large blue one? Acorus, Astilbe, Iris variegata, Hemerocallis, and Zantadeschia and Kaffir Lilies, and in the front are our collection of Pulsatilla, which I refuse to move again, because they are doing really well there, some of the plants will have to be chopped out, because this is over planted, as per usual!! in the pond/barrel is a dwarf water lily, some reeds and oxygenating plants, so there you have it, another little project from SPINDLES in Hampshire.
OH and we will be growing three different bush tomatoes and 3 different kinds of strawberries to trial, and whenever it decides to stop raining we will plant them out, thanks for your time, have a nice day!! what’s left of it.

That looks Great Dd even with a wet floor, Oh has come up trumps yet again and on days like this you can admire whilst staying dry..
Its chucking it down here as well but I did get the lawns mowed this morning, up and down the garden more times than a fiddlers elbow, dodging showers since lunchtime and yes its cold.....

lol Angela, just been out to my proper pond as the fountain wasnt letting water out right, anyway sorted and it was pond weed glogged around the pump, messy job yak haha, i keep counting my fish and seems some are missing, but i have a net, maybe not comming up yet as they are the smaller ones, more worry than they are worth sometimes :)i find it hard to keep up with my garden and with Baz not being a gardener it even harder, jobs i want doing but its a long waiting game :(

Your garden looks lovely wouldn't mine a small pond myself does it attract a lot of flies or mozies ? don't mind any other type of insect , the rain as not stopped since 9-30 this morning and it is still coming down now at 7pm .

That looks very nice - what a clever pair you both are!! It's good to have someone to bounce ideas off.
I am in the 'over plant' brigade, mainly because I lack the patience to wait on it to all come together!!
I should add that I showed my niece your picture but before I could explain - she ran out the back door! She sat in the huff next to the pond for ages. Not in the huff with me but with the frogs for not coming back....she's a wee drama queen!

Lol! Lol! Excellent blog A. I can see 'A' frog....but I fear he has frozen solid and turned quite pale in the cold! ;) x

Looks lovely, DD. You and OH make a good team.I've been faffing about with my 'pond' this week but will have to redo it as it's not deep enough. Mixed weather here today; torrential to begin with but brighter later on. Still got that cold wind though.

Looking great and will look particularly nice with all the ripples from the raindrops!
It is pouring down in Devon and the wind is getting up yet again - bluebells and blossom are in for a rough night ahead!

Kidsgran we have mossies here in the summer with or without the pond, not flies, only beautiful dragonflies.
Scottish sometimes it can be a pain, both of us are very stubborn, Scorpios you see, the neighbours have got used to our heated discussions now!! sorry about your niece I am sure they will return soon....
K you mean our giant frog lol can you not see the one in the pond? lol
Sheila it will be when the bed is planted up with some edibles, as long as the frog is not partial to strawberries?
TUB ponds do require a lot of faffing believe you me, have put in and taken out more ponds than I care to think about....we have a howling gale here now!!

Definitely a case of two heads better than one DD, the pond is a visual treat and the raised bed just yummy when it starts producing you`ve come up trumps.

It all looks lush in the rain Dotty and the pond looks good there. You've got me searching for blue Hostas now :o)

Love the name, but why is your garden called SPINDLES?

15 May, 2013

Stroller thanks very much, will try and get the raised area planted up if we have a warm snap!!
Annella there are some beauties about, I should have put the large leafed one in the pot really, more spectacular.....next time lol
Sheila, we have several Spindle trees, and my OH used to work in the world of carpets, where they use spindles, hence the name......
