Birthday weekend

It’s my Birthday today and I’ve had a great birthday weekend. We went to two garden centres and my lovely hubby Tim bought me a bag of compost, some new secateurs a packet of seeds ’ Geranium ‘Moulin Rouge’ and 2 Photinia Red Robins. Fab! He also bought me a yummy birthday cake!
On Friday my boss gave me a double cassette set of Alan Titchmarsh, reading ‘Trowel & Error’ – one of his books I bought last year and haven’t got round to reading yet, then my workpals surprised me with a massive bag full of purple things – purple is my favourite colour – in the bag (amongst other things) I had a purple watering can, purple bubble bath, purple sponge, purple wine glasses, purple toiletries, purple everything! But the biggest surprise was having 3 seed potatoes placed on my desk – a gift from one of the chaps I work with who’s also into gardening. He’d bought a bag of ‘Rocket’ seed potatoes and had shared them with another gardening work buddy, he had 3 left over and gave them to me to try out. Everyone who came to visit me on Friday was asking why I had 3 potatoes sitting on my desk! I then went into great detail on how to grow them – a few strange looks later, they wandered off, no doubt thinking I had gone completely bonkers! Not sure if I managed to convert any of them to gardening, but I’ll just keep on trying!
When my mum phoned to give her birthday greetings I just couldn’t help myself and started asking her about her garden…My step-dad made some raised beds last week and they’ve got some seeds on the go already (I think I prompted them to sow them after talking rather enthusiastically about gardening. I said I had a few seeds left over and will send them in the post to try. I’ve said she should become a member on GoY so I can see photographic evidence of developments! Watch this space….
All in all, I have had a fab birthday-gardening weekend!

Thanks Jacque, BB, Ams, Aster, Grenville, Blodyn, Milky, Lincslass, David, Wohlibuli, Gilli and Marguerite! A slice of birthday cake is on its' way to you all! I really had a fab purple birthday. Blod - I'll be planting the spuds in a specially prepared bed, the same area we grew some Charlottes - they were great so I hope the Rocket are just as successfull. Lincslass - you may call me Her Royal Purple Princess - it sounds very lah-de-dah! LoL.
David - I haven't quite gone to seed yet, although being on the other side of 40 now ( so the rumours say), feels a little wierd at the moment. I've told everyone I'm 29 but not sure they believe me!
Marguerite, Baden Powell and the Scout movement actually started just a few miles from where we live - on Brownsea Island. When we had our boat we used to go around the island, dropping the anchor and dangling a fishing line in - of course I caught the most fish - a couple of them were eaten by our cats when we bought them home!

Purple is also my fav colour, love the idea of getting a bag of purple goodies. How thoughtful! My birthday is this week, there are a lot of us celebrating at the moment!

parkers and van meuwen sell them and its not too late to plant them in the garden. I have them coming up in pots at the mo.
