Late for work today...

For the first time in over 6 years I have been employed at the place I work at I was 2 minutes late in this morning…..and why? Because I was gardening! I was out in my shed by 7am this morning, potting on my Calendula, when I’d finished, I sat in the conservatory looking out at the garden when I suddenly had the urge to plant something. So back down to the shed for the trowel and I pottered around the garden planting in the Polyanthus we bought at the weekend for some instant colour splashes. Before I knew it, time had whizzed by and I had to get my skates on and get to work. By the time I arrived I realised I was late, so had to take a 6 flight stomp up the stairs and in the back door so as not to be seen. Heck! I was spotted…..Heart pumping, hands shaking, beads of sweat on my brow……..I had to think quickly – should I say I was stuck in a traffic jam? Should I say I had a puncture? Should I say the wrong type of snow/rain/wind/weather was happening so I couldn’t get in early? No…….. I told the truth to my manager, and she laughed! My boots were still wet and mud all over the bottom, so a quick change of footwear and I was ready for the day ahead. Phew, I got away with it.
I wish sometimes I could be in the garden all day, every day. There’s always something to be getting on with. I hate being in the office when I could be outside making my garden a nice place to be. I so enjoyed being out there this morning. Tomorrow morning, I’ll be going on a slug/snail hunt – for those who know me already know how I feel about these creatures – put it this way, they’re not on my favourite critter list! Mmmm what excuse can I use for being late tomorrow…..the wrong type of critter in my garden, maybe?

I could spend all day every day in the garden too. Too bad work has to get in the way.
Glad you got away with your tardiness Greeny. You can always tell your boss you were cornered by ninja snails and slugs with machetes and had to fight your way free. :o)

Gilli - I think I'll try that one next time I get carried away in the garden and end up being late - with the summer just around the corner (honestly it is), I'll need a whole list of excuses!
Seaburngirl - I am up at 5.15am every morning to see hubby off to work, then click away on here for an hour or so, then it's out in the garden (if it's not raining). I love getting down the shed to see what seedlings have started to grow - it's like Christmas morning, you never know what you'll get till you take a peek. We look after our seedlings more than ourselves I think!
Donnah - the summer is a terrible time to be stuck in the office - I sit looking out the office window daydreaming of what's happening at home in my garden. (Note to myself - do not get caught by boss when daydreaming!).

Oh I know how you feel. I was the same when I was in work. I was lucky we had flexi time so I didn't have to think of excuses.

Now THAT is why I enjoy being retired! No more dashing about, just do what I want when I want. In the garden if I can, whatever.

When I was working, I lived my life at 90 mph. Always in a hurry, no time to stop and gaze at a flower, dash, dash, dash. So I do understand and send you workers a dose of sympathy.

I do wish people would stop gloating about being retired. my brother often rings at 7.30 to wish me a 'good' day at work as he is heading off to the garden after a leisurely breakfast :o( its not fair.

When managers are all washed out why do they get gardening leave? I want gardening leave.

Last night we were not allowed to leave work as there was still some space to be sold (ad space), I should have left work at 5.15pm, but unfortunatley we weren't allowed to go until 6.45pm!!! Needless to say I was not happy and made my feelings known this morning. But today, we did well so were allowed to leave early - I got away at 3pm - the sun was shining and the mild weather 'forced' me into the garden. It wasn't long before the lawnmower came out of the shed, for the 1st time this year! Then the lawn rake, phew I was warm when I'd finished. Today's gardening 'fix' certainly made up for being kept on detention last night! Spritz - I long to be retired, I can't wait, I'm certainly living my life at 90mph at the moment and relish every moment I get in the garden, only another 25 years to go til retirement....arghhhh!
