Beech from bench to Bonsai

About 4 years ago a Squirrel must\ have tucked a Beech seed into a crevice between the wooden bench and a breeze block. I have watched it grow very slowly until now. I should have filmed it before moving the breeze block and taking out the tree, which had a metre long root system, where it had grown sideways between the breeze and the .bench.You can see the place where the roots ran in this picture
This is the Beech in the tray with the rock under which I have tucked the bulk of the finer roots. It is tied in with string, of a type which I hope will rot by the time tree is established
I have added a support for the overhanging stem
With a Moss covering the floor, I will put it outside to mature, leaving the pruning until it has put on some growth in the Spring. Keeping my fingers crossed just in case it objects to the exposure.
I am sorry to have missed taking photos of the roots.

What a amazing thing to happen! A real do-it-yourself Bonsai Beech. I do hope it thrives.

Very clever Poaannua , hope it survives to become your own version of Bonsai beech - isnt that in Australia ?

That looks really good in its pot! Isn't it amazing how/where self sets take hold. Looks like you have clever squirrels too or maybe not that clever or he would have remembered where he'd left the fruit/nut!! Ha, ha

Sad to say it died. It was asking a lot . I think I should have covered the exposed roots but was over confident and maybe forgot to water it often enough in that one short week of hot weather. . I have left it in place and the pot had now grown a Leycesteria formosa, self sown . I will take a picture and post it in the next few days.

Really interesting. I shall take some pic's of my ones in the spring.
They are not as interesting as your Beech though.
