Fete de Roses

Last Sunday was the Fete de Roses in the nearby village of Camon. I thought all rose lovers should share the day with these photos I took, only thing missing is the perfume! It has been very dry and hot this Spring and some of the single roses have gone over but most are still in all their glory……

This is how I personally appreciate roses…..when they belong to someone else! I have just two in my garden, both climbers and even they seem to require more attention the the rest of the entire garden!

The houses in this medieval village enhance the sight of over 200 climbing roses winding round doors and windows. The “shabby chic-ness” works well…….

NOW you can choose one (or some) for your own garden to take home…….no wonder that man is scratching his head, what an amazing selection. I’m out in the garden to count the greenfly or was it spray the blackspot…..or the mildew…….

What a wonderful sight! I particularly love the second picture of a pink rose - lovely!

The amazing part about these roses is they are grown in a little patch of earth about 12 inches square at most, out of the pavement! They remain healthy and vigourous and it defies reasoning!

Sme here with the grape vines that drape along the fronts of old casas - where do they get their nourishment?

Those roses are beautiful. And what a lovely village. Is that where you live ? It's really nice :)

We live in another french village about 10 miles from Camon, it is not quite so pretty (we don't have the roses) but the houses are the same and they always put flower containers around in the summer. But they did cut those trees down :-)

I love (other peoples)roses, I was in England the other week and went to Hever Castle which has a lovely rose garden. I specially like scented ones and the perfumes are so different from one to the other.

Yes it's funny, but I don't want unsmelly roses now, I somehow feel scent should be an integral part. I'm hoping to visit David Austins soon so I can actually see them growing before ordering:-)
