Harvest time

I just enjoyed the most delicious apple crumble made with the apples from my garden. Yummy!!! It’s certainly a good year for apples here in North Shropshire- hardly any bug damage and HUGE apples!! No conference pears this year – no idea why?
In fact I’ve got so many windfall apples that I’ve resorted to putting out a wheelbarrow at the end of my drive every day for my fellow villagers to enjoy. Unfortunately my apple trees had been badly neglected and despite regular pruning there are a lot of apples I can not reach & pick so can not store.
Anyway just wanted to share with you that it is rewarding to get something back from you garden when you put so much work into it!

Those look like Bramleys? Its lovely to be given surplus apples. A friend brought us two big trays a couple of weeks ago and we are so enjoying them. Poor Hywel, how disappointing for you. Maybe one of your neighbours has a juice extractor - the juice might be good even if the apples aren't.

Hywel, I wish I could send some your way as I have got far too many! Have been giving them away to local school, homeless charity and anyone who walks past my house as I can not see anything going to waste.
It does depend from year to year what the apples are like. Can't put my finger on it but I guess it depends on the weather conditions and bug infestations.

Maybe I'll keep them another year to see how they do :o)

It's been a super year for apples up here in n.yorks too. Do you manage to store them? Unfortunately the first time i grew appletrees we moved as soon as they started to produce, so will have to plant again. Apple crumbles en appeltaart staan bovenop mijn pudding lijst!

I'm glad you got some apples. The ones on my trees are horrible and I'm thinking of getting rid of them.
In my previous garden I had lovely ones.
