Long thin garden makeover

Here’s another garden I redesigned and landscaped for a customer a few years ago.
The garden is terrace house width( about 16 feet wide) and about 50-60 feet long. The plot was initially a typical rather dull long and thin garden with not much of interest in it.
The client wanted an interesting garden with a patio area. Introducing curves to the lawn makes the garden seem wider and gives room for new planting. To keep costs down I covered the existing very rough concrete area with pea gravel.
This photo shows the garden in a before and after state
More photos from different positions
and another before and after shot
The whole job including laying the patio ,reshaping the lawn and planting up took 3 days
Here’s a sketch of a garden I’m designing at the moment (July 2012)

With this customer I had total freedom. She had seen one or two other gardens I'd done and said "do what you like" within a fixed overall budget .
That is how I like it. Sometimes I have an overall plan for a garden and a customer will insist on adding something which I think spoils the overall effect. .. but it's their garden so they get what they want!

That must be the hard part, it would be for me, when they want something that just ruins the whole effect or to create a garden that you just don't connect with,I take my hat off to you, you must have to be so accommodating and I would imagine patient!

A brilliant makeover Anchorman ... you certainly know your stuff. The whole garden was made interesting & welcoming ... & a nice area to sit on the patio ... your customer must have been thrilled.

Good job, nice result, Anchorman. I know exactly what you mean when the client insists on including something that "jars" with the rest of the design - luckily, I seem to have excellent persuasive powers...;-))

beautiful...and my favorite kind of customer
good decision on her part, I can't imagine her thinking of anything that could look better than what you've done there, nice job =) I love how you've curved the path of grass.

I think you've done a fantastic job there Anchorman. Great idea covering that concrete with shingle. it looks very smart now. Isn't it amazing how curves have made that area look so much bigger...and so much more interesting too! Nice job!

Thats an amazing difference A, can I ask do clients usually give you a seperate budget on the plants or is it all included, I just wondered, because it must be great to buy all the plants at the same time, to be able to put your "picture" together in one go, do you know what I mean?
