A little "help" on the balcony

I had a little help on the balcony on Saturday as I was planting out some red Petunias I’d bought earlier in the day downtown.
One of our Spanish granddaughters, Ainara, (the daughter of our youngest son who came to live here 2 years ago), wanted to help me put the plants in the troughs on the balcony floor.
She is 4 years old & will start school in September. She likes to help her daddy in their garden also! :-D))
So while I made holes in the compost in the troughs she put the plants in them & covered the rootballs with such tenderness I had to laugh!

You are quite right, Hywel. That's how I got into gardening in the first place! My father divided up our family's narrow strip of garden into 4 plots for my 3 brothers & myself. I was the only one to get bitten by the gardening bug though. ?

How lovely, at 4 I'm sure she will remember it of one of the many special times she spent with her Grandfather :-)

Like me Balcony. My brother and I were given a bit of garden each by our dad. I was the only one who made anything of it.

How lovely to get help from such a gorgeous little helper , it reminded me of our granddaughter helping us to put our first plants in this garden 23 years ago .. how time flies .........

Yes, Bloomer, I enjoyed the time we were together on the balcony! We get on very well indeed & I hope that special relationship will last for many more years yet!
Thank you, Amy, she is gorgeous & I didn't mind in the least that she wanted to "help" me put in the Petunias! As she was putting the compost back in the holes around the plants she kept on telling me that her daddy had shown her what to do! Yet he himself didn't know how to do it a year ago!
He has really taken to gardening in spite of not having done any in at least 35 years! As a small boy he also helped me - like his daughter does now!

Great stuff Balcony, that's the way to go! I have a photo of me aged about two holding a trowel in a determined way...

Time spent like that with our grandchildren is very special, I used to love the tasks mine helped me with, even the time my grandson helped with the weeding and came to me carrying his bucket and the plants we had planted the previous day, lol....Its good she has remembered daddy showing her how to do it, I hope you were doing it right grandad.....

Lovely to see your grand daughter enjoy planting I hope she keeps it up when older. My 20 year old grand daughter keeps on at her husband saying she wants a garden like mine she bought him here and shoved him out side and said see this is how I want my garden lol.

Thank you all for your lovely comments, they are much appreciated!
We still have a couple of photos (on paper!) of her daddy helping me with a watering can (empty!) in our front garden! He was probably of a similar age to his daughter now!
Last summer she used to go around her garden pulling up all the "weeds", fortunately most were tree seedlings that had germinated in the bark chipping that that take the place of a lawn in their garden. It seems she pulled out few plants put in by her daddy. :-))
I like to encourage my grandchildren to help me on the balcony, mostly with watering during the summer & then with picking the tomatoes in the late summer/early autumn.

For the time being at least she is quite enthused!
Occasionally I have to go to the nursery where she spends her mornings to bring her round to our place when her mum is doing a shift that doesn't finish till 3pm & can't pick her up at 1pm. As we walk to our flat she comments on the nice flowers we see along the way! On occasions she sees something I haven't seen & draws my attention to it! LOL!
