Autumn is by far my favorite time of year. Those dog days of summer are finally over and it’s time to reap the harvest.
Apples are at the top of my list – sweet, juicy, crispy and quite versatile, what’s not to like?
How rewarding is it to savor the sweetness of a red delicious apple you picked yourself – nature’s gift.
We’ve visited the orchards at Woodside Farms in East Hampton, NY. That is near the Eastern tip of Long Island, New York. Apple picking is a much anticipated annual event in my family.
Here are some of the highlights of the trip.
Red Delicious
Gala
My sister Rosemary, nephews Adam & Brendan
Mutsu A cross between Golden Delicious & Indo. Crispy, firm, moderately sweet, full of juice.
Here are some of ways we’ve enjoyed them…
Hot apple cider before heading home

Who makes all those delicious treats, someone in your family or the growers?

Except for the cider, we make them at home. At the farm, you buy a sack and pick as many as will fit in your sack.

What great crops there I can see why your sister and nephews are smiling knowing what treats they will get back at home.

Looks good Bramley and Gala are my fav apples.

Thanks, Bramley are very tasty. They have over 20 varieties growing here.
Thrupennybi, Yes, so much fun to pick your own apples. We are always looking for new ways to eat them. Apple pankcakes are an old favorite. Sliced up in oatmeal with cinnamon & brown sugar is another.

What super apple treats....Lovely to have somewhere like that to visit and take home some lovely apples too.
Doughnuts look delicious.....We have a medium rootstock apple tree called Cobra. Cox's and Bramley mixed together and they make lovely crumbles and pies.

Crumbles sound very nice. Yes, it's a nice day out to visit the various farms.
