Walk in the cold part 2

Since writing the blog yesterday I have tried to take a couple of close ups of the plants I bought, as i am not familiar with them, in the hope Anothergala or anyone else can say if the naming is correct.the pictures are not as sharp as they might be(I had a couple of glasses lunch time)
This should be Galanthus Desdemona.
since taking the picture i see what looks like pollen at the edge of the doubling will investigate tomorrow!
These two pictures should be Bill Bishop
I have also tipped out all four plants I purchased from there pots to check the roots as i new the plants had been bought in and suspected a lot would had been bare rooted and potted for selling, this is never good as for thoes doing it is a chore,my findings were that two plants needed repotting as the roots instead of being spread out were crushed together in the middle of the pot, they will be OK but left the roots would probably have rotted. The tell tell sign is the white stem above ground showing they were originally growing a lot deeper. Its something I have learnt over the years. If in doubt lift it out.

Desdemona looks huge. I have many snowdrops with the same marking but none as large. Looks pretty.

Very handy tip there - you'd think they would be potted properly! Just can't get the staff, lol.

I have seen this done with lots of plants.A classic is a pot bound Rhoodenderon put into a larger pot to sell at a higher price, you buy it think thats a good size pot fine for a year or so at the end of the summer dead.Because unless you tease the roots out of the pot bound ball water never penetrates the roots and is unable to grow away. if in doubt!

Good tip Brian, I tend to look at the overall shape and condition of the plant and forget about the rootball.

Desdemona is Flora Plena the term refers to a double flower (Fora. Flower. Plena. Double )The term is used widely from Roses to Primroses to say the flower is Double
I think latin for plentifull.lots of petals

Hello Brian. I'm afraid the Greatorex doubles of which Desdemona is one, confuse the experts and I'm certainly not one of those. Also they can very slightly from year to year throwing out "Tusks". I can detect slight differences in some of mine when they are all put together. All I can say is that you have a lovely double snowdrop which could well be Desdemona. I am more certain that you have Bill Bishop, isn't it a huge flower.
