Thought you might like to see where we went,on our Anniversary ,earlier in the week…so,armed with the new camera fully charged..we went for a pub lunch, high on the Pennines, near to us.It is just inside the border of Yorkshire, and 100 yards from Lancashire..This is where we have often met up with Carole(Pansypotter) and Harry…Very wild and rugged up here, and is part of Marsden Moor, owned by The National Trust..The Pennine way, loved by walkers,is here too..This is Redbrook Reservoir, across the road from the pub..which has recently been drained, repaired and refilled..and a view across part of this vast moorland ..looking across to a part of Saddleworth moor, and sadly, infamous for it’s connections with the Moors murderers Ian Brady and Myra Hindley…

See you in a bit, just going inside now..

Oh,that’s better.!..very busy today, lots of good company to chat with, and a lovely meal as usual..so,it’s off to Uppermill ‘over the Standedge’ as its known, into Lancashire. We are directly above the Railway lines and tunnels to Manchester and Liverpool..a great feat of engineering,in the 1800’s..you may have seen Carole’s blog last year,on a trip we had on the canal boat through part of the tunnel, deep underground..
I’ll just say hello to ‘Shaun the sheep’ basking in the sun,at the side of the road…lots of them up here,so we have to very careful driving over..why do they like standing in the middle of the road.? Shaun is very sensible..:o)

A 10 minute drive now, our destination is the village of Uppermill..famous for its Brass band concerts and the traditional ‘Whit Sunday’ walks..remember the old Whitsuntide holiday’s .?Still kept alive here…I thought some of the boys might like to see this classic car, when we parked up..an old Ford Consul..in pristine condition, inside and out…lovely leather seating..but not a seat belt to be seen.! Wonder if they are exempt for some reason ? very odd…anyway, this was the start of our walk, under the railway viaduct, and along the canal tow path..

Canadian? geese basking in the sunshine..

We now have the river to the left of the canal..

Mummy Duck and her late brood of chicks..lovely..

We are now in the village of Uppermill..

The house with the white door,is where Russell’s Grandma used to live..he spent many happy hours there,as a child..

As you can see,a scene of flooding from the river, many years ago..

The village hall and Museum..on the main street, and lovely flower beds..

.we set off back over The Pennines, into Yorkshire.. and these pics are of Marsden moor again. This was some of the 8 mile area, devastated by Arsonists on stolen Quad bikes some months ago..some of you may have seen my blog at the time..they were never caught..but glad to say,the moorland is starting its regeneration process, although it will take years to recover..and replanting of the heathers will continue,by the National Trust.

The village of Marsden in the distance..sorry it’s unclear, but as you will see,it’s taken from a moving car..!

Back home, and no apologies for showing my Orchid again, having some fresh air..It is relevant to the occasion,as it was bought as a gift, for our 30th Anniversary, seven years ago,and always flowers on time…and again in December..how does it know ? .Lol…
Not bad for an old un..a bit like me.:o)))..oh,and a pic of my outside clock ,bought at Chelsea flower show,a few years ago..

That’s it then, hope you enjoyed seeing another visit to our surrounding countryside..be it Lancashire or Yorkshire..both are lovely…

Loved the Ford Consul! My Dad had one of them back in the day! :)

Nice scenery. I will commend about the old consul myself too. Being probably one of the older G.O.Y. members I remember them very well. Even in my small village in Cyprus we had quite a few in the late fifties. They came in three different names and looked very similar. If I remember well they were called consul, zodiac and zephyr.

Firstly, Sandra, my Dad had a two-tone Ford like that, in pink & cream and I used to earn my pocket money by polishing up the chrome! Oh, you don't need to have seatbelts fitted & worn, but you cannot transport children in the vehicle. So now you know! ....... I realy enjoyed seeing the sights with you, it's a total contrast to Sussex, that's for sure! Love the canal and the towpath. Glad you had a lovely day out and well done on some lovely pics ... :o))
