Weekend with friends :o)

We went to stay with our special friends last weekend,in Mablethorpe,Lincolnshire…a place where we have had some happy holidays, years ago..ideal for children, and fantastic beaches…We called at a large garden centre in Brigg, for lunch, near Humberside Airport..and spent a nice couple of hours there..Look who we saw there !
The family of Carole’s(Pp) Ollie owl, which she bought when we met up recently..and much dearer here . The same size was £8 more.!
A lovely display of Cyclamen..
Oh,dear..I hated these..a nice plant spoiled with different coloured paints on them..Why ?
A nice setting outside,though..
This is my friends garden…and as you can see,she is mad about Fuchsias..such a lovely display, and many more in the borders..all grown from cuttings..
Lots of cuttings in the greenhouse..a lot of them, for the ‘Help the Hero’s fund raising they do,with other friends, and various events,so far..a total of over £5000 …a brilliant effort..
A lovely Alstromeria ..
she also has lots of beautiful Orchids .another passion..
Time for a walk to the seafront..and a look at the lovely uncrowded beach..I don’t think those two in Deckchairs were speaking ! Lol..We had a lovely weekend, fine and warm, lots of walking, and meals out, with good company..just perfect :o)
Life is hard,as we have to go the Yorkshire Dales again, this coming weekend..but someone has to do it..might as well be us ! :o))

Awesome stuff, thanks for sharing. Couldn't agree more about those paints, and you've inspired me to attempt fuschia cuttings myself. Your friend has a fantastic collection!

oh Bloomer you bring back memories, from about 1 year old my family, gran, aunts, uncles lots of cousins descended on Mablethorpe for the august fortnight-- right up to when Beeching weilded the axe on the railway.....:~(--- we had a chalet on the front there and we kids just had so much fun......happy days

Lovely Bloomer - I have seen these owls - wanted one but they were so pricey at our garden centre - £30 for just a small one! Love the cyclamen colours , also I am baffled to why they'd spray a perfectly good plant ! I love that stone wall - more ideas for me there :)))))
Always love the beach - glad it was a nice time for you :)))))))))))))))))))))))))))

You could make one of those owls out of cement Paul! :)
28 Sep, 2011
Are they made of cement or wood?
28 Sep, 2011
Thanks for all the nice comments...the owls are made from river stone,Pixi..so will weather well outside...I can't believe how much they are at your garden centre,Paul...the small one I saw,was £20...but someone was buying one at £40 ! .but it was a big one..
Glad you all agree about the painted succulents...really horrible..as are those dyed heathers you see...ugh !!
I will pass on your compliments to my friend about her garden...she will be chuffed..:o)..they have just given up their allotment ,as the other couple they shared it with, didn't pull their weight, even though it was their idea.
Think they thought the produce appeared all ready on a shelf ! Lol,so it was too much for them on their own..
Glad you enjoyed reliving your happy times there,Pam..so do we,when we go..:o))
Another idea for you,Lil,,? stone carving ! Lol.
You must have a go,Talamander...they are quite easy, and well worth it..and Sticki,I didn't like the T-shirts on the Hairy Bikers programme,either..but enjoyed seeing our village..and all the characters !.They are noted for calling a spade ,a spade..!Some of the same scenery was on my blog, last September....and the mill featured where that lady spent 48 hours on her own,is called "The Titanic",as they were both built in the same year ...now all converted into apartments..but very nice inside, and a lot of the original features were kept..

Ah Brigg Garden Centre, a place I visit on occasions. Must go back again, maybe half-term holiday that is when my daughter is off school and we can wander for ages. Love how they have their outside area all landscaped and then there is the restaurant and plants and all the extras, everything you could wish for, wandering around for ages just browsing, lots of gifts and lots of ideas, furniture to fill up your conservatories, bbq, pet supplies, you name it they have it. But you do need lots of pennies, quite expensive.
It is a well looked after g.c. and always so very busy. Last year the weight of the snow dragged down the outside plant roofs and they have had to rebuild it all. Hope it doesn't do that again, it was hopeless trying to find a place you could walk around outside without it being cordoned off. Pleased to say it is all back up and running again.
Glad you enjoyed your visit Bloomer, nice place to walk on that beach.

Oh B. I did laugh about the couple having had a row!!! Lol. It really amused me. Thanks. Glad you had a nice weekend, your friends garden is delightful.

Glad you had such a nice time Sandra , I don't like those painted coloured flowers at all I saw some heather the other day in all sorts of different colours they looked awful I can't imagine who would want to buy them ....

Think I'll pass on the suggestion of trying stone carving:))
Plate is full right now. Trying to figure out how to make a statue like Pixi's :)))))
Not an original idea in my head!

Looks and sounds as if you had a great weekend Sandra. Seeing that large family of owls makes me yearn for a Mama and Papa for LIttle Ollie, but dont think my pocket money would run to that! Love all the Cyclamens with their riot of colours, and the those lovely Fuchsias, did you come home with some cuttings? As for that couple on the beach, think they must have drifted apart;0))

They have had a lot of work to do,by the sound of it,Olive oil..that must have been a blow for them...We had a lovely light lunch there..and you are right..so much to look at..we stayed longer than intended,as its a long time since we visited..we will go again,as its a nice stop off point when we visit our friends..:o)
It made me laugh too,Grandmage..and they looked to be past the 'We wanna be togevver' stage ! remember that ad ? Lol.
Make one,Pixi? you are having a laugh! I can imagine how it would turn out..and it wouldn't look anything like an owl, that's how artistic I am :o))
Thanks Amy..I wondered if the paint affected the plants..I do hope no one ever buys me one..! Lol.
Ok,Lil..we will let you pass on that one...you have enough to do,it seems..you are going to be one busy lady .:o))
Thanks Carole..it was a lovely weekend..and looking forward to our visit to the Dales tomorrow too..a last minute decision, while the weather is so nice..We went to Hollingworth Lake today, and walked all round it..it was very busy, but we all enjoyed it....You will have to ask Harry to use his spending money, for a Mama or Papa..:o).I didn't bring any cuttings home,as I have a few of my own ..if they survive.!..Lol.
28 Sep, 2011
Try it! lol
