LADY EMMA HAMILTON READY TO BURST FORTH AND ALTERATIONS IN PROGRESS

After having all her blooms battered by the rain and wind a while back, she’s having another go. Very impressive.
Here in close up
I tried counting the buds, but ran out of fingers. However, I crossed them in the hope that the weather will be kinder to them this time.
Now on the back garden : this is Heuchera Midas Touch. I thought I’d lost it, had a big problem with heuchera rust, but here he is battling through.
I had a Viburnum Opulus, attractive native, which for the last 3 years has been totally disfigured by vibunum beetle so lovely son-in-law Paul kindly dug it out for me along with a variegated cornus which had spread too far and could be a rose or something else. As you can see, the poor spade was ruined and bent back the wrong way lol

nice blog B/A looks like your going to have to buy a new spade

Yes Sticki, I'd never heard of it 'til this year. I think it's been caused by lack of air circulation and damp, just the sort of weather we had this year. I'm hoping there won't be a problem next year. I was looking at rose diseases and saw a terrible incurable one called rose rosette disease, a virus decimating roses in USA. It's not here, but what a nightmare. Let's hope it can't come to UK. On a cheerful note re heuchera rust, I have removed affected leaves from other heucheras and that seems to have done the trick so far. Poor old Midas was covered by an overgrown geranium so suffered more:-)

ok, i can do that, thanks BA, i took one or two of mine out of the flower bed and that helped a bit but i have a few more now with the spots!!!

Hi Yorkie, I was very crafty and asked him to bring his own spade as mine is quite a dainty 'lady spade' lol. I suppose I'll have to buy them a new spade though:-)
27 Aug, 2012
Oh no, never mind he might say not to worry

Lovely BA - our roses didn't do much as usual lol - heucheras were average here too - a gardening year to forget here - sorry about the Viburnum Opulus they are lovely too

Hb...my 'Lime Marmalade' Heuchera was also covered in rust....Heuchera rust only affects Heucheras and there is a certain spray for it which i couldnt find...I lifted mine from the infected soil and chopped it all back, replanted it, seems alright now...hope Midas recovers for you...:>)

That dear little heuchera is a triumph!!! Hope it continues to do well. The rose is a beautiful shade of apricot and looks lovely.

That rose is gorgeous! Very nice of your sil to get those shrubs out for you.
Now that you have mentioned 'spots' on heuchera leaves - I'm sure some of mine are starting to show this too. Another reason to blaspheme the weather!!

Paul, some of my roses were a bit of a damp squib this year, a few were plagued with black spot like Mama Mia, but I think being swamped by forget me nots didn't help earlier on and the awful weather. My Flower Carpet rose has bloomed like mad, unfortunately no smell with that one. I've only had Lady Emma H a month or two, I love her. The Vibunum was a lovely quiet little tree/shrub, such a shame.:-)

I think it's the terrible weather Motinot, do you? Never seen it before this year:-(
27 Aug, 2012
That rose is gorgeous Ba, mine are coming out now as well, they have really struggled this year but like you I am hoping they do not get ruined again, I moved one of my Heucheras into a pot because I thought it was dying, you have just described the symptons, its a pale green one, not sure of its name, pleased to say it is growing well again now, guess thats one that does not like the garden...
Laughed at the state of the spade, I have a couple like that and a very bent fork, lol....
27 Aug, 2012
Hi Wildrose, I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it and put the label by it to show its size, it is a small heuchera anyway, described as compact ...sure is now lol:-)
27 Aug, 2012
Yes Scottish, it's caused an awful lot of problems this year hasn't it, must be better next year:-)
27 Aug, 2012
Lincs, i had to throw a spade and fork away early in the year, that's when I bought my dainty 'lady' spade and fork, much easier to use. Poor old Paul did have a struggle with those roots lol. Hope your heuchera recovers fully;-)

Big improvement in the front garden Ba, love the colour of the rose, supposedly a sunny day for us tomorrow a tonic for all those little buds.
27 Aug, 2012
Love the form of your Lady Hamilton Ba...it's very similar to my nameless freebie one from T&M which flowered for the first time this year.....mines a bit more yellowy though.
27 Aug, 2012
I don't think I have any disease on my Heuchera's,so far,Ba..as I was tidying them up yesterday..so hopefully they will be ok,but thanks for the info..your Rose is looking healthier than mine..never had blackspot before this year ..they are almost bare now,as I took them all off,as it appeared..but lots of new growth now..very tall stems with buds at the top ! looks daft :o))
27 Aug, 2012
I struggle with everything :D
27 Aug, 2012
You are good with Grasses,evergreens,etc,Paul..so no,not everything..you always show us a lovely display :o))
27 Aug, 2012
Sad about the viburnum opulus, the berries are so pretty.
Didn't know about viburnum beetle - another pest to look out for then!
27 Aug, 2012
lol that spade :D
I hope the weather will be kinder now, to your rose and all of us ... and I hope your heuchera survives. It's very tiny ... bless it's little heart lol :o)

Very nice rose that BA! Just dont have any more room
(:-((
Dont make tools like they used to..Ken used to use our neighbour's when doing Dave's digging. When Dave died, his son gave it to Ken. Very old and VERY strong. The silly beggar gave it back when the son started to garden a bit! So I bought Ken a new one for his birthday, expensive too, and it broke at the neck, whipped it back and got a full refund!!
Sorry to hear of your disasters, not much consolation but tho I controlled the lily beetle, it didnt work on earwigs, slugs, ants and other pests that have multiplied like anything this year! My roses are a disaster zone!
27 Aug, 2012
Thanks Stroller, Janey and Bloomer, you were right about the sunshine today Phyl ... yippee!:-)
28 Aug, 2012
Paul, your garden always looks wonderful, your struggle doesn't show ...I agree with Bloomer:-))
28 Aug, 2012
Thanks, there's always something Steragram:-))
28 Aug, 2012
Hi Hywel, I've no idea what to do with the spade now ...it won't fit into the bin lol:-)
28 Aug, 2012
Yoohoo Tet \o/ I don't mind pests in the garden, it's only naturally ...but some times they just take the Micky don't they and destroy their host ...now that aint natural. I haven't had too much of a problem with slugs and snails this year.....I know, amazing! but capsid bug and viburnum beetle, not to mention lily beetle, they have been terrible. Now my poor heucheras and rust, blackspot on roses, even mildew on my clematis The President ....whatever next? I predict a wonderful simmer for 2013 and an indian summer starting soon:-)
28 Aug, 2012
It had better start soon BA, Im off for a week to Shropshire!
28 Aug, 2012
Enjoy and I look forward to pics. Where you going exactly?:-)
