What's that on the roof?

I went out this morning as usual to feed the birds and clean and fill the bird bath. I looked at the roof of the house at the back of my garden and saw a duck. I thought I was seeing things.
Yes, blackbird…. pigeon … DUCK!!!
within a very short time, as my back was turned, it’s mate arrived!
I’ve never seen a duck on a roof before. A dear old friend of mine has two ducks visit her garden many years ago. She had a tiny pond, little bigger than a washing up bowl, she was thrilled. Not so thrilled a few days later as they had made a terrible mess of her garden lol. She was more than pleased when they decided their holiday was over and returned to the duck pond in the small wood which her garden backed onto. I hope they’re not eyeing up my pond, it has enough frog, newt and other wildlife residents thank you very much. :-)

Hi Kate, I was surprised to see one, but when another duck joined it ..... ! I saw a news item , I think yesterday, where firemen rescued ducklings from a roof. They must have been born up there and couldn't join their mother without the rescue. I wonder if it's a phenomenom of lock down? Very odd. I do, in a way, envy you your little duck family, though I don't think my dogs would have been too happy:-)

Lovely to see an assortment of birds there on your roof Bornagain lucky you looked up. Pigeons make all the mess in my garden so can sympathise with your friend.
Lol Kate ducks can fly as I live very close to a canal I see them often flying over my garden .

Balance must be tricky with webbed feet! We had a neighbour once who had an upright plastic-sided swimming pool and he got a mallard family in it 2 years running. He wasn't best pleased either.

I think Anget, there's a distinct possibility, that ducks are not too intelligent :-)))

I encourage all our feathered friends but I've yet to get a pair of ducks! BA, let us know if they stick around 😁😁

That is so strange B.A.! We had a couple of ducks in our big pond in a previous garden and although I thought it was lovely, I soon changed my mind seeing the mess they made ! I hope your ducks stay on the roof!

I give up! this was supposed to be a serious wildlife blog about confused water fowl out of their comfort zone on a roof. First of all I'm told it's not that uncommon ...you know who you are ..... and then, instead of taking it seriously, some on here have come out with ducky word play and jokes and I'm miffed 'cos I can't think of any, and I have tried:-)))

Well here I am ready to lead a group grovel for not taking life seriously...or perhaps I will just duck the issue...

I'm glad somebody has all their ducks in a row.

Lol you two, I see no contrition here. I may have to see a shrink after all this stress, and I'll send you both the BILL :-)))

Well what does one say to all of that, I think you're all quackers but its lovely to see the jokes flying back and forth..
Ducks are especially good at flying off just as you've set your camera up for a close up shot, I know these things..LOL..

Fantastic! How on earth it got up there I don’t know! Must have some super skills..
We had ducks in our pond several years back, nice to see, but as you’ve said - the mucky mess wasn’t it. The little ducklings were smashing to see though. Still..messy though when you have a small garden.
