Upon the Roof .......

….. it’s peacful as can be (Drifters 1962 – I think that this was the original?). Anyway that has nothing at all to do with the blog.
Earlier in the week I had to go up onto the flat roof to do some routine painting and so I thought to take the camera up with me to take some ‘aerial’ shots. The flat roof overlooks the back garden.
This a view looking towards the north east and this
is looking south east across the garden and fields beyond
Along the side of the house is an ‘established’ bed of woodland plants and a pond.
A couple of weeks ago we recieved a delivery of paving slabs and sand, my task should I choose to accept it (no chance not to) was to lay the slabs on the old concrete patio and path so that we could put the new Gardening Scotland furniture on it
As we have been talking about sheds this is our shed and working and propogating area. It never looks tidy!
Lilium lancifolium flaviflorum
We don’t have many flowers out in the garden at the moment but the lily that we bought this year is rather special. Hopefully it will bulk up and we will have a clump of them in a few years time.

You have a lovely garden and the beautiful views in your photo`s add to it,I`m quite envious, lol. My flowers are a disappointment at the moment but I`m still hoping for some sun and hopefully they`ll perk up. I also bought some new summer bulbs this year and the one in your pic was amongst them, only two flowered so far but like you I`m hoping to have lots more in time .Lovely photo`s......

a very nice garden. That shed looks a bit posh.

I liked your areal shots. I don't think sheds etc are meant to be tidy. It just wouldn't be practical.

OMG Bulbaholic...your garden is fab!!
I bet you have foliage colour all year round. Really nice.

Good job you didn't fall of the roof love!

We have foliage colour and 'some' flowers (making it an interesting garden) all the year round but, for flower power, it is a spring garden.
Whilst the shed might look posh it is a third of the size I would like, the greenhouses are a quarter of the size I would like and the garden is a fraction of the size I would like! Oh dear, I AM LOSING IT!!

Look forward to spring photos then!

What a beautiful garden you have lovely and colourful too, your new furniture looks comfy too. Wonderful scenic view you have must be great not to have to fence it, gives you more to be able to see, bet it looks lovely when it snows too. Do you get a lot of wild life in your garden. Love your tiger lily too

The view was one of the reasons that we bought this garden, Morgana, We have no intention of fencing it in. One of our dog walking neighbours did once suggest that we needed to put up a six foot fence to keep HIS dogs out of OUR garden - he got very short shrift.
I was interested to hear you call the flower a tiger lily - I have not heard that for years. I suppose that is a term I once used but I am now more inclined to call it a turks cap lily. I wonder where tiger lily comes from, I think turks cap is more descriptive?
I would't say proud, Sbg, but certainly a feeling of satisfaction. There is nearly 20 years work out there and it is still far from finished!

I love all turks cap lilies and there is one that is a 'tiger lily' and its just coming into flower now. many people call all the orange ones tigers. I will look up its latin name in my rhs book when i post its picture.
i agree about the view. people can be over 'fixed' on the needs of their pets.
Is a garden ever finished? I doubt it.

I am pleased you never put the fence up owners of dogs should keep them on a leash if they cannot control them and train them not to intrude on other peoples property, before letting any of my dogs of a leash I would make sure they obeyed me first. I think some owners ought to be trained not the dogs , some should not own dogs at all as in my experience they are unfit to handle them.

Of course it is the owners that need to be trained not the dogs - our worst scare was when a dog chased one of our cats into the kitchen! The owner still thought it was a joke!

An utterly charming garden with views to match.

It all looks very green Bulbaholic, unlike down here. All wind and very little rain here in Essex this year!
Lovely blog and photos!
You'll have to get on the roof more often!!! ('On the Roof's as peaceful as can be' I beleive the said sang!

wow, lovely photos, I must pluck up the courage to have a go with alpines, they always look so delicate and fragile, I guess they are to the contrary with their natural habitat being in mother natures rough rocky domains

Fantastic garden - great design, love the pathways and mix of foliage colours and flowers. The woodland area is just jam-packed with interest. I can see it's definitely a labour of love - and to top it all off, you have that great uninterrupted view. I'm glad I got to see this blog - even if a little late.

Thanks, Bernieh. I don't get paid for doing it so, yes, it must be a labour of love :-)

..having admired some of your garden pics taken at ground level, it's nice to be able to put the pieces of the jigsaw together by looking at the aerial shots. :o)
